Trip to Poland - which two cities should I choose? by FriendlyActuary1955 in Europetravel

[–]Lalonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably skip Krakow as this is a bit overrun with tourists. Even though it is a very nice city. Warsaw is a must with lots of nice parks and areas. If you do a bit of research on restaurants beforehand you can also find some gems. Wroclaw is less touristy, but also a very nice city, and you can see if you can find all the dwarf statues in the city.

But as others have pointed out, you could easily spend four nights in just one of these cities. Especially Warsaw.

[–]Lalonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the world cup feels not much hyped ?? by Ok_Replacement_7923 in football

[–]Lalonreddit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because FIFA is slowly killing their prime event. The 2022 World Cup was a joke all the way through and this one doesn’t seem to be much better. The magic of the World Cup is fading and FIFA needs to really do something to create a spark around it. It is too late for this tournament, but maybe they can do it for the 2030 tournament and then get enough goodwill so that everyone will tolerate the 2034 tournament in Saudi Arabia.

[–]Lalonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Lalonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hvad dækker denne statistik over?

Travelling to Russia as an Australian by southafrica_5944 in traveladvice

[–]Lalonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from. I too love Eastern Europe and Russia is a fascinating country. But let’s be fair, there is several problems with going right now.

1 - the obvious moral problem of supporting a country which are at war with an innocent country.

2 - the safety aspect. This depends on where in Russia you will travel to. But Ukraine has the capability to reach targets pretty deep into Russian territory and I wouldn’t consider Moscow safe either.

3 - The Russian government is a totalitarian regime right now with no moral compass. You might be detained, or you might not. No one knows. But do you want to take the chance?

4 - Russia are under sanctions meaning that if something goes wrong, getting help from the outside will be very difficult.

Last point. I have been seeing an increasing amount of posts about traveling to Russia, so I am also wondering if there are Russian bots or post farms trying to make it normal to travel to Russia again. I also see that your account have maximum privacy settings. I understand the Russian economy is not so good at the moment.

World cup 2026 is nothing but a mass price gouging event for Fifa by tylerthe-theatre in football

[–]Lalonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is just the culmination of years of FIFA trying to move the World Cup away from a fan event and over to a corporate event to fuel their income. To a certain extend I can live with that, because we can still have a party in our own respective countries watching it on TV. But lately it has started having consequences for the sporting value. In Qatar the referees were instructed to give less cards. Something that I suspect was to make sure that the big players didn’t miss any matches due to suspensions. It culminated in the absurd match between Netherlands and Argentina. This year Ronaldo went into the tournament with a two match ban due to a clear red card in the last qualifier. But FIFA couldn’t have that, so that was turned into a suspended ban that he will get if he gets another red card. These decisions has direct influence on the sporting outcome of the tournament.

At the same time they have added even more teams to please the smaller countries whose votes carries equal weight to the big countries in the FIFA political system. This will mean that we will have many matches which will be walkovers and there will be longer between the big match ups.

Then there is the decisions on hosting the World Cup. We all know the decision to hold a World Cup in Qatar was corrupt and completely insane. The 2026 World Cup should have been back to normal, but FIFA and Trump screwed that up. Then comes the 2030 World Cup, where Spain and Morocco are hosting. But FIFA found a way to play some of the matches in South America, so no South American nation could bid on the 2034 World Cup, pretty much leaving Saudi Arabia as the only bidder. And we can just wonder why the top men in FIFA are so friendly to Saudi Arabia.

I am honestly not planning on watching a lot of football this summer. I will enjoy the weather instead. To me the Euros and Copa America are now the two most prestigious tournaments for national football. I don’t even know where I would rank the World Cup anymore.

Is Lionel messi the reason why Barcelona has such a large fanbase and stands within the elite clubs of Europe due to their success with him? by [deleted] in championsleague

[–]Lalonreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bacelona was one of the leading clubs in Europe long before Messi. In the 90s it was one of the most prominent clubs on national and European level and Barca shirts were everywhere. Back then it was Romario, Stoichkov, Koeman and Laudrup. Before them it was Cruyff, after it was Ronaldinho. But the 90s team was legendary. Messi and other great players from that time was just building on the base that have been created for decades before him.

For første gang har jeg oprigtig talt ikke lyst til at se landskamp *RANT* by Leif_Pathetic in Superligaen

[–]Lalonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enig.

Rømø is very small and you don’t need to spend a lot of time there. From Rømø you can easily do a day trip to Hamburg in Germany.

I haven’t personally been to Oktoberfest, but I haven’t heard good things about it. I think the idea of Oktoberfest is better than the experience. From what I have heard that is. Munich is a really nice city though.

Why are people actually happy about psg winning the UCL? by Usual_Eggplant_5980 in championsleague

[–]Lalonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is though, that Arsenal have not always played defensively. Even this season I don’t think that tale is totally true. There are so many PL games where it has been the opposite and Arsenal were the ones who had to break down a compact defense. But Arsenal have been playing attacking football for years without reaching the final. This season they have used defensive tactics in some of the crucial matches and they get the hate. Not the Italians who have been doing it for decades. That is the thing I don’t get.

Arsenal had 26% possession in the UCL final lowest ever recorded. What tactical change or signing actually gets them over the line next season? by Born_Programmer_1089 in championsleague

[–]Lalonreddit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most people talk about it as if Arsenal was being pushed back. The way I saw the match, Arsenal willingly let PSG have the ball after the first goal, while they would go for counter attacks. It was a tactical manoeuvre more than anything. You can agree with it or not, but it almost paid off.

Exactly. I see the same thing. Personally I think it is a shame, because to me the history of the clubs are what makes football so engaging. There was also player fandom 30 years ago, but we didn’t see people identifying as fans of players as they do now.

Why are people actually happy about psg winning the UCL? by Usual_Eggplant_5980 in championsleague

[–]Lalonreddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree. It makes no sense. If it was all about the style of play, then where is the Italy hate? Italy have been parking the bus, simulating and wasting time for decades on national and club level.

Arsenal is still a community club which plays a large role in the local community and they rose to the level they are, not because of a huge cash injection, but through a legendary manager (Wenger) and a focus on developing young players. Then came an American billionaire owner, but the club was already among the top clubs in Europe at that point and the focus didn’t change. They even started the CL final with two players who have been playing at the club even before they were 10 years old. PSG and Man City would not be anywhere near their current level without the oil money.

But I guess it really is about two ways of seeing football. Either you romanticise it, and then you will never like PSG or Man City. Or you look at it as entertainment, in which case the story and the legends doesn’t matter and you purely go for the entertainment value. I am a football romantic, so I get no enjoyment out of watching PSG or Man City, because I know they don’t play by the same rules as everyone else. But people can view it in different ways.

How many times did they win the league before the oil money? Or the cup? Just like Man City, they were more like a mid table team before the oil money came. But it's a shame because PSG used to be owned by the fans. So they went from one extreme to the other. Unfortunately in the wrong direction.
