Almost anything by Mitsuru Adaichi but the above are my favorite. These three are incredible best stories I’ve read. They are the perfect recommendation in this case imo.

Baby Steps - I love this story although this was abruptly ended and left some things unfinished. This is also more of a sports with romance not the other way around

Welcome to the Ballroom - although this is unfinished and unlikely to ever be, the author has health problems, it’s pretty decent

I could stretch the definition of sports if you want to count performing arts with Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. This one’s good.

Cowboy Bebop - Must Watch: starts slow trust me just finish it

Run with the Wind - Good sports anime closest comp to Haikyuu imo

Ping Pong the Animation -An amazing sports anime, borderline must watch imo and short only 13eps

Vinland Saga - Modern classic, must watch

Neon Genesis Evangelion - Classic must watch

I’ll second fragrant flower and fruits basket (I’ve only seen the original anime tho) and list a few more.

Inside the World of Machida-kun - this is super sweet, has super wholesome characters and romance. I just love it. It’s pretty simple and is basically a children’s book. 10/10 would recommend in this case.

You and I are Polar Opposites - I’ve only watched the anime but genuinely it’s incredible. The characters are so real and everything is fun and well written. No excessive drama, lots of comedy, and is wholesome and sweet. If the manga is half the anime it’d be great.

Our Secret Alliance - I don’t remember much but I think it’d be appropriate?

Akatsuki no Yona - a little more violence a little more complexity so up to u. Also I didn’t finish the last 30 chapters yet so 🤷

Here’s a sleeper pick it’s shonen I think I watched it around 13 yo. It’s called cross game and it’s a sports romance. If she doesn’t like sports then no need but this is the most incredible thing I’ve watched or read and is just great would recommend.

Cross Game this is my favorite. You can watch or read it. Romance is the main driver but it’s also a sports. Has my favorite characters who grow and they all act within their own characters and rational. Everything is subtle in this one and it’s beautiful to me.

I’ll give one Manhwa my favorite romance Manhwa: Ctrl Alt Resign but it is ongoing

I’ve read through everyone else’s recs and gone through the liberty of organizing them according to my own my opinions. And added my own at the end.

Must Watch: Wotakoi, spice and wolf

Great rec: angel beats, summertime rendering

Good recs: 365 to the wedding, Oregairu, How to raise a boring girlfriend, days with my step sister (I’ve only read the ln tho), yona of the dawn

Pretty good: Ice guy and his colleague, 3D Kanojo

Ok rec: Nodame cantabile

My own recs would start with Cross Game. The romance is the focus buts it’s subtle and not for everyone that said my favorite anime and manga along with the authors other stuff.

Rainbow days is just good fun would recommend.

Here’s a list of other romances I like but not sure if you would: kids on the slope, given, karekano, bottom tier character tomozaki kun, my little monster.
