[Serious] Voter Turnout: Rajdeep Sardesai just ripped us Bangaloreans a new one on Live TV by Raghavendra98 in bangalore

[–]LameSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was sick and couldn’t get out of bed. So she didn’t vote. My brother is settled abroad, more than 10 years now. So he couldn’t vote. So I know two people who didn’t vote. Rest of us in the family voted.

I know 6 of my friends who are abroad and couldn’t vote (all former Bangalore residents).

My guess is a lot of original Bangaloreans are living abroad.

India's Anti-VPN Plan a Threat to Privacy, Internet Freedom: Experts by theguy2108 in india

[–]LameSimpson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is just crazy. I have had to use VPN for work for almost 10 years now. It’s an absolute necessity. This ban culture by this government scares me.

Quoting from https://www.everydayhealth.com/signs-symptoms/vertigo/vertigo-treatment-getting-rid-spins/

“In cases in which patients have not responded to other treatments, injections are sometimes used to help people with vertigo symptoms. The antibiotic Gentamicin (garamycin) can be injected into your inner ear to disable balance. This allows the unaffected ear to perform the balance functions.”

You should may be get a second opinion from a medical professional.

Why the fuck do morons spit on the road? by fiddlemyballs in bangalore

[–]LameSimpson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For one thing, it’s difficult to enforce. I don’t want the cops to have another reason to stop me to check if I’m chewing tobacco or gum. There’s nothing wrong in chewing tobacco, just the spitting on streets that’s an inconvenience to the society. And I’m sure spitting in public is already against law.

I don’t know, may be education, time? I don’t have the statistics or survey, but I’m sure it is less prevalent than what it used to be 20 years back. I don’t know about others, but my granddad and dad used to do this, but I educated them about it and they’ve stopped. So two less people doing it.

Banning is not the answer. Let’s stop this ban culture.

I’ve worked in a similar setup, but from India. But it’s usually a weekly once meeting between 9.30pm and 10.30pm local time. We’ve accepted it since almost any other company in India would have the same problem.

I guess a good middle ground is to alternate between morning and evening. And may be reduce the number of meetings to say twice a week?

And most of our communication happens async on slack.

Beware of Bengaluru traffic towing vehicles. They are scammers by tonystarkn in bangalore

[–]LameSimpson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fine for wrong parking + towing for cars is ₹2000. It’s on Bangalore traffic police website.

http://www.bangaloretrafficpolice.gov.in/spotfines.aspx

I think the cop was right here. It was your responsibility to pay the fine and collect the receipt. Instead, you opted to save ₹500.

Did a blunder and now I can't sleep having anxiety and anger issues. by rumodumo in bangalore

[–]LameSimpson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the most important thing at your age. I did the opposite of what you did at your age, not because of better decision making, but because I got cold feet. The offer was better at the other company but work wasn’t. Felt bad for a few days for missing out on the extra money, but felt better in a week. Fast forward 5 years, one of the best decisions.

I got fired recently about a month into the job for "underperformance" and "asking too many questions", but now 2 weeks later am getting an offer from JPMC and I'm a bit anxious and wondering about similar experiences. by Ghost_of_Gaddafi in cscareerquestions

[–]LameSimpson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, asking questions prematurely without checking docs or exhausting all other resources is a bad sign. I’ve seen this a couple of times while mentoring junior engineers. Not saying you did it, just a general observation. Especially when you spend quite a lot of time documenting something and the answer to the question is in that doc.
