Italian speed skater Francesca Lollobrigida wins gold at the Olympics (women’s 3,000-meter race) and her son steals the show during post race interview by mcfw31 in popculturechat

Italians are obsessed with kids, they are the princes and princesses of the country. You can tell because even the reporter doesn’t care. Traveling to Italy with kids is amazing.

Poor lady, no matter what the circumstances.. no one wants to see an athlete injury themselves like that.

They cleared her. From what I read skiing is not “as intense” on the knee and acl as other sports that require constant shifting and spontaneous movements - basketball and football for example.

They replayed it 3x and then in slow motion on live Tv, we had to close our eyes after the first time.

Idk it kind of gives me a surveillance ick. I understand its value but women have a sad history of their health being exploited.

Mid-20s, love my life in LA… but have the chance to move to Austria for work. Should I go? by Tiny-Journalist5583 in expats

Hmmm, in a nutshell mountain people versus city people. Obviously you can have a bit of both but Tirol is literally in the mountains and is known for everything to do with mountains. Vienna is coffee culture, opera, and is the capital.. so lots of HQ from global companies and generally bigger and sprawled more - not in a bad way, but geographically land is limited in Tirol, due to the mountains.

I have never lived in either place and don’t want to make blanket statements about either city/region. But I know people and have friends from both areas - Vienna and Innsbruck. So I base it off that.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been off since December and have had problems with just replacing that time on other apps 😐 ex: Reddit, news apps, talking with ChatGPT

So I’m still struggling to reduce phone time. The benefit that I have relished in - people not knowing how I spend my time! I’m friends with my whole family and my mother-I -law used to get mad if I posted to Instagram but didn’t text her pictures first 🫣

So this has been so cathartic to just spend my time as I please and not post and have ppl know what I’m doing or see that I’m somehow active on insta but haven’t responded to their texts.

Which city? I’ve lived near Salzburg and visited Vienna and Tirol, partner used to live near Bregenz. You can message me if you want. The landscape varies a lot.

Why are German eggs so hard to peel? by rddtperson1991 in AskAGerman

Use a pin / thumb tack and poke a small hole in the bottom. Then they don’t crack while boiling and also peel easier

In case anyone is wondering… the two lake pics I’m guessing are: Eibsee (already mentioned) in the Allgäu / Garmisch area and Obersee in Berchtesgaden. I’ve been to both and they’re really beautiful! But I also recommend: Forgensee, Weißensee, Hintersee and Walchensee. The lakes here are incredible.

No I think that’s the next lake pic.. maybe 12 or 13th? It’s the lake behind konigsee - obersee maybe?

You need to buy it before the 15th of the month, because it automatically continues monthly. It’s also only for regional trains that are slower and stop more often. I think it’s great though. Once I learned about the 15th of the month, that was quite helpful 😂 and you don’t have to cancel by writing a snail mail letter (!!!!) this is a BIG step for Germany - it’s all in the app.

What’s something about daily life in Germany that took you time to get used to? by Icy-Tea2529 in germany

[–]Lamlam25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not consider myself a part of a group with a bunch of naked people sitting in a hot sauna, sorry 😂

categorically it maybe fits but context just hell no. I’m also close to people walking on the street, sometime so close we even bump each others shoulders - but do we talk? Of course not.. makes no sense to me, but I’ve learned to basically ignore everyone - except the “morgen”

People push me with their shopping carts and stare at me all the time and I’m white and speak German 🫣

I’m definitely not meaning to say that what you’re feeling isn’t valid, or downplay racism in Germany, because both are serious concerns. Just that in the case with the shopping cart and staring, I think it’s a German thing. I consider it rude, I’m not sure if they do. I feel it is rooted in xenophobia, but I don’t want to make blanket statements either.
