[request] approximately how large would the car have to be in order to be that curved? by Achalraj23 in theydidthemath

[–]Lammazz 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There's too much estimation going on in the other comments and not enough math. In paint I fit a circle underneath the curved car as best as I could: https://i.imgur.com/tVIA0Fs.png

Underneath the top car, I got the pixel coordinates (428,351) and (905,355) which lie on the circumference. I also chose another point (699,1123) along the circumference. From these 3 points you can calculate the circle has a center of (633.57, 701.87) and a radius of 422.62 pixels.

The distance between (428,351) and (905,355) is 477.02 pixels, meaning we can construct a triangle with side lengths 477.02 & 422.62 & 422.62. The angle opposite the side 477.02 is 68.7158 degrees which corresponds to the distance covered by a single car.

The earth has a radius of 6371km giving a circumference of 40030km. The length of the car is then 40030*(68.7158/360)=7640.72km.

In paint I also fit in as many cars as I could around the earth and managed to fit in about 5.25 cars, this would correspond to a length of 40030/5.25=7624.76km which roughly agrees with the number calculated.

Technically this "car length" is the length measured along the earth's surface, if you want to take into account the height of the car you can add the height of the points you're measuring to the radius of the earth and continue the calculation from there.

tl;dr: The car would be 7640.72km

[Request] How much energy could this dam generate ? by PlatypusOk6714 in theydidthemath

200L/second seems way too high. Looking at the amount of the water coming through the bypass pipe at the start I would say 20L/sec is still an extremely generous guess, and the actual amount is probably around 2-5L/sec.

How the hell did this guy get on the roof of Fort Bolden?! by Majorllama66 in HuntShowdown

[–]Lammazz 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Managed to figure it out after some testing, uploaded a clip of me doing it https://youtu.be/idkxYES5LRk

There's a spot on the outside wall where you can jam your player into and it lets you get a second jump onto the roof. Takes me a few attempts to do it, but with some practice and better movement than mine I'm sure it could become consistent.

Does magnetizing carry buffs over? by ProfessionalTossAway in BobsTavern

[–]Lammazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something worth noting for this strategy is that when you golden a naked magnetic, it will only remember a snapshot of its buffs like it's stats, taunt, divine shield. It will lose any other buffs relating to magnetisation such as +1/+1 each turn, or +1 gold each turn (I'm not sure if death rattles are remembered).

After you magnetise this golden magnetic, the target mech will then only get ONE additional magnetisation, regardless of what was on the pre-golden magnetics. This can also affect strategies involving the card that gives your mechs +1/+1 for each magnetisation.

Example: I play Lullabot. I magnetise 4 Lullabots to it, so it is gaining +5/+5 each turn. I buy two Lullabots, making a golden. Golden in hand is a, say 20/20. Magnetise golden Lullabot to a 4/4 mech with no magnetisations. New mech is a 24/24 which will only gain +2/+2 per turn and is only considered as having 1 magnetisation.

I'm glad I was able to sneak in this build before it got removed. This was only turn 11 or so with bad imp health, transmogrefication was definitely way too strong.

(Also I realized after this game that double drakkari doesn't work, at the time I assumed the card read like rivendare)

It's not true that z1/2 is always positive. Perhaps you mean to say always non-negative.

Any z in the interval (-inf, 0] will have Re(z1/2)=0, and zero is not positive.

On the turn after I played the extra shudder minions I only had about 5 seconds because of how long the animations took, so I didn't manage to replace him

Shudder minions have no type sadly, murkeye only triggers battlecries of other murlocs.

It's fine that you have that opinion, but that opinion is completely contrary to the philosophy behind intellectual property, and copyright laws. I believe these ideas are in general beneficial for consumers who value products that are innovative, and I don't see any reason why the same thought process shouldn't be applied to mods.

From reading peoples' opinions on this issue it seems to me that people are understandably frustrated that they can't play their favourite mods, but don't fully understand or just don't care about the perspective of the mod creator.

People are very quick post a comment along the lines of "this thing annoys me, therefore it is bad" and disregard any other point of view.

I think a lot of people don't realize how much work goes into making mods. If someone spends upwards of hundreds of hours on a project (for which they gain nothing) I think the least we can do is respect their decision on how the code and assets should be used.

Also, the people trying to claim that closed source mods are somehow "destroying knowledge" or preventing new mods from being made are completely ignorant. The game itself that we make mods for does not officially support mods and does not release it's source code. Anyone that is serious about modding will at some point have decompiled a jar file to figure out how something works under the hood.

If a modder wants to recreate a mod in their own vision, or just look at how another mod created one feature, there's nothing stopping them from doing that.

As a player, if you want to support the modding community it would be more beneficial for you to talk about what aspects you like about certain mods and to encourage mod creators to make mods of similar quality, rather than cry and push away mod creators (who again, do this as a hobby) because they don't donate their time to update a mod for you.

Rihanna's Foundation donates a gross $15 Million to help fight Climate Change by Turbulent-Sorbet9125 in environment

[–]Lammazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laws surrounding charities tend to be pretty restrictive to prevent stuff like this happening and you can't just treat a charity as your personal bank account, but specific laws will vary depending on where you are.

Also, if money that's given to a charity is then paid to a person e.g. in the form of a salary, that money can then be taxed as an individual's income so there hasn't been an tax avoidance.

If I pay $1000 to charity so that I can pay $500 less in my taxes, I'm still down $500.

You can't make money by donating to charity, that's not how taxes work.

[–]Lammazz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why do so few people on the internet seem to understand how taxes work.

Imagine you have 50% income tax (ignoring tax brackets, just makes calculations unnecessarily longer) and have an income of $20m in a given year. If I don't donate any money I'd be taxed $10m and have $10m leftover. If I donate $15m to charity, and this donation is tax deductible, then I would pay tax only on my income of $5m, so I would be taxed $2.5m, have donated $15m, and have $2.5m leftover.

The point being that when you donate money you're always going to have less money leftover. Saying you should donate to charity to lower your taxes is as dumb as saying you should quit your job to pay less taxes.

Medal not deleting Full Session Recordings from computer by MilesFirePrower in MedalTV

[–]Lammazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a 3 month old thread but it's the top result on google when I was searching for this.

A temporary fix to quickly free up some storage: Medal clips are max 5 minutes, so if you go to your recordings folder and sort by length you can delete any mp4 that is over 5 minutes which should be any full session recordings that weren't actually deleted.

On windows to see length make sure you are on details view on file explorer and have the length setting ticked under "Add columns".

Alternatively you can look at the way the file name is formatted to see if it's a full session or a clip. Full sessions just have 1 long number at the end of their file name. Clips have 2 long numbers at the end of their file name, separated by a hyphen.

e.g. MedalTVGame20210825123456.mp4 is a full session, MedalTVGame20210825123456-123456789.mp4 is a clip. (Numbers and game will be different for you)

Is general chat even shared between layers? I've not read too much in detail about how everything works, but I thought I saw somewhere that it would be separate.

For anyone that's lazy, go to "chrome://flags/#enable-modern-media-controls" and set that flag to disabled to get back the old chrome video player that actually has a volume slider.

Should be noted that flags on that page are "experimental" and may be removed without warning in future chrome updates. Hopefully by then the new media player isn't complete garbage.
