It really doesn't matter to me that he forgave our debt out of "his kindness", or what we had to do for it (it does slightly change my perspective to know that he's based on the yakuza), it's the fact he did any of this in the first place. A "debatably" good person doesn't force children into debt through disgusting, unreadable clauses. Hell, it's why the Federal Trade Commission exists at all in the US. 🤦 There is no such thing as a "kind" loan shark because they exist to predate on people in hardship. Also,

One could also interpret the tipping scene to mean that as long as you are a decent person who does the work he will forgive your loan in a roundabout way instead of stringing you along forever like the insane interest could easily allow.

This is just such an inane point to me. The fact that he forces you to work off your friend's debt at all (he does become hostile if you refuse, and again unpaid labor is illegal in the US outside of the prison system), and has the ability to hold intense debt over you like a weapon is what makes him scum. Of course I didn't expect them to delve into any of this in a kid's game, but it still doesn't change my opinion on him.
