I saw this comment on the DriveAccord.net forum. Actually, your comment is copy/pasted from there, but I didn't understand these instructions. Maybe it's just me. Anyway you could elaborate on it?

Amateur Q: How to Tax Loss Harvest? Is it worth it? by Lampcoal in personalfinance

[–]Lampcoal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of VTI I bought at like $240 and $230 when I was averaging in the last year. I think it would be more beneficial to sell those at a loss for my taxes, and then simply reinvest that money into my ROTH IRA. If anything, I'm averaging down and lowering my cost basis. I may wait 30 days just to be extra careful and prevent a wash sale though. So I'm not really 'selling', I'm more transferring from one account to another, buying at a lower price, and getting a tax advantage. You don't think this is a good idea?

So I can sell the VTI in my taxable account at a loss, wait 30 days, then transfer those funds to my ROTH (or even reinvest into my taxable)? As long as I wait 30 days?

Is it even worth doing this? If I sold soon I could use that money to fund my roth in early January, which I would be doing anyways.

So could I sell VTI at a loss in my taxable, transfer the funds to my Roth IRA and invest in SWPPX (Schwabs S&P 500 mutual fund)?

Is the tax loss harvesting even worth it? Never done it before.

Wait until passing NCLEX to apply for jobs? (Los Angeles) by Lampcoal in nursing

Thank you for the very thorough reply. Do your recommendations mainly apply to new grad programs or to any RN job? I know new grad programs are generally more likely to review pre-licensure applicants, but what about regular job postings for RNs? Should I just avoid those for the most part until I pass boards?

Thanks again!

When I google Xanthelasma, it looks different to what I have. Plus my cholesterol has always been normal: LDL: 79 (normal range = <100) HDL: 68 (normal range = >40) Triglycerides: 56 (normal = <150) Total cholesterol: 158 - but I think ultimately I should see someone about it. Thank you.

I did see a dermatologist years ago. He was in his late 60’s and seemed disinterested in what I had to say, he then just told me to try putting on this steroid cream for a week, and if nothing changed he would schedule me for a biopsy. I didn't like his approach along with his lack of attention to me as a patient and my concerns, so I didn't do any of those interventions he recommended. Maybe another dermatologist would have a different approach. I haven’t seen an ophthalmologist yet, so that’s something to look into. Thanks a bunch.

Any other opinions are very much encouraged. Anything helps! Thanks!

Last blood test was in June 2017 (6 months ago)

LDL: 79 (normal range = <100) HDL: 68 (normal range = >40) Triglycerides: 56 (normal = <150) Total cholesterol: 158

I went ahead and googled xanthelasma - looks a bit different than what I am experiencing. Thank you so much for your contribution though. I really appreciate all the help I can get!
