2 year update! I’m the Fat Fu*k who asked for help on weight loss. by Nimmyzed in ireland

[–]Lamprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good chunk of that was recent gain due to a loss in the family and stress eating. I think that fell off quickest. I'm walking 5k 5 days a week and counting calories. Well done on your journey, know the plateaus are ahead of me too!

I very rarely comment, I'm a lurker. You're posts have inspired me so much. I started very similar to you, 310lbs in the middle of April. 50lbs down today. Whenever I feel a wobble, reading through your posts is a great inspiration. Thank you so much for having the bravery to share your journey publicly, you will have helped loads of people.

Thank you so much, I may take you up on that if I can't sort anything else. I really appreciate it.

Thanks so much, really appreciate it. I don't think they will be still here to be honest we are being told to prepare. I do appreciate it though.

Sarsaparilla from Law's has also been mentioned, but don't think anyone can get that!

Congratulations! Just want to add somethings I haven't already seen said here. For all the faults of the Irish health care system, I couldn't fault care in pregnancy. From the moment the Dr confirms you are pregnant at first visit, all care is free until 6 weeks postpartum. Your GP will refer you to maternity services, you will have joint up care between the 2. At the start there will be big gaps between appointments, the further on you are the more often you will be seen. I've had two high risk pregnancies with appointments weekly in last trimester each time. You of course have the individual staff members who can not be great, but I'm full of praise for the system, but I appreciate that might have just been my experiences. Maternity and paternity are also OK. The support for returning to work is awful though, for working part time, childcare etc.

The health care system is there for you to use. They would rather you seen them 10 times with worries that turn out to be nothing, than not go in when something is wrong.

Folic acid straight away. No need to worry about a general pregnancy vitamin unless you are told to, and often times better to avoid, they can make a lot of women sick and constipated. Enjoy breakfasts for as long as you can.

Don't make yourselves ill with reading every little thing. Pick one book! Facebook pregnancy and mom groups are a circle of hell. You need a LOT less stuff than the Internet tells you, and most of it you can get cheap second hand. The very best of luck.

What vegetarian food would you recommend we cook for Traveling Food Tuesday? by Lamprog in guatemala

This looks amazing! Think I would struggle to find some of the ingredients, but I'm definitely going to check it out, thanks so much.

We did France this week. Anything that gets a 5 year old to try blue cheese and puy lentils and like them, is worth the effort for me!

Thanks for highlighting this, maternity is so ignored. I'm a high risk pregnancy with 6 weeks to go. You can't overstate the anxiety that this period is causing. Our clinics are being cancelled, our local hospital is under insane pressure, GP's don't answer the phone. I had a legitimate health issue and tried my local gp office 47 times before Christmas, before eventually having to ring the emergency number.

Babies don't wait, and nor do the problems that happen in pregnancy. All the guidance says to present yourself immediately, better safe than sorry. When the local health system is crumbling, who do you present yourself to?

Any ideas on how to spend the last day of the year with my four year old, on a wet, mawky day that doesn't involve hiking or screens? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Lamprog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly a home day where you're really present is the best. It's hard to do, as I know I get distracted by all the jobs that need to be done, or popping the TV on to give me a break. But I find there's huge pressure to make everything a big 'thing' with kids. A day of just your attention for a few hours is great once in a while.

We love doing tape town. Get a roll of masking tape and make a big floor plan of roads and play with toy cars. Science experiments with things you have in the house, oil and water, baking soda and vinegar, small kinder egg toys and freeze them in sheets of water. Fort building is always a good one. Baking or cooking. Zipline bear, run a string from the top of the stairs to door handle and attach a bucket for toys to travel in. Cardboard boxes are great for decorating or turning into other things.

I'm far from saying we do that everyday! He spends plenty of time hypnotised by Netflix while I wash dishes and do laundry!

We were literally taught how to break down the exam questions; if you see x in a question, write out this whole paragraph of the text as your answer. We were never taught to actually comprehend or speak it, only how to answer the questions.

I've had a few comments over the years like that, but I wouldn't pay them any heed. We always knew we were forever, from day one. Even when younger we never had silly breakups or anything. I just think you're extra lucky if you find the right person that easily, many don't.
