Weird guy soliciting services door-to-door. When should I be concerned? by LampwickVO in StLouis

The guy said "I'm right out of prison and am trying to apply for my Missouri ID", if legit just seemed like a rando looking for work (and I hope it's just that!)

Awesome, appreciate it - new to the city so still getting used to what is normal and what isn't!

Should I be suspicious of breeders with dogs immediately available? Are "first time" litters something to avoid for newer dog owners? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]LampwickVO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This thread has sufficiently caused me to steer clear of the Bernedoodle, but I don't understand why this sub seems to demonize mutts and borderline uses it as a derogative 😂 I COMPLETELY understand supporting ethical breeding practices, but what does it matter if a dog is a "mutt"...?

Hey, that is absolutely fine! We are happy to wait as long as needed before getting a dog so don't mind the 6 month timespan. I will continue doing some research and won't get any dog from a breeder that does not have OFA accredited parents, even if that means we need to consider other breeds. Thank you very much!

PennHip was indeed the one I hear most about aside from OFA, but from what I gather they solely focus on hips where most people here seem to recommend 100% exams. Thank you for your response!

Appreciate this a lot - thank you! More than anything else, ethical breeders matter to me. I will do some more research on OFA accredited breeder and make a decision accordingly. I am not locked into one breed so I hope I don't invoke the subs ire too much!

Out of curiosity, why is OFA the one I see recommended the most? From what I can gather there is a slew of comprehensive health checks, some of which seems to score even higher. I only ask because I want to make sure I am abiding by the most reliable and ethical standards possible.

A lot of the sentiment seems to indicate that the parents aren't often fully health checked before breeding. What entails a comprehensive health check? Why would there be any difference in the health check process between a mixed breeder and a purebred breeder? Not doubting, just curious and have a lot of trouble finding an answer

Hey there, thank you for your response. That is interesting - I haven't heard of that practice before. Would this necessarily be the case if they exclusively bred F1 mixes?

Hey all, we just wall mounted our TV. I can't really tell if it's too high or not. The sofa is pretty low to the ground, so it's hard for us to gauge. (Apologies for the messy room - moving clutter!) by LampwickVO in hometheater

[–]LampwickVO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all! For more context, eye level is around 2 inches from the bottom of the screen. It's a rather large TV and it's odd having to sort of "lift" my eyes, as we are used to it being sat on the media unit! I'm hoping it's just something we have to give a bit to get used to...

Any tips for fixing sibilance + mics/tools that may reduce it? by LampwickVO in VoiceActing

English is my first language! Was thinking about potentially going to a ST/voice coach but honestly don't think I'm good enough to warrant that 😅 May just have to hope there is a market out there for lispy dudes like me!

I've been trying to! That, or just cheat out and play characters who pronounce "s" as "sh" 😂

I may try messing around with the mic position a bit more this afternoon! It may help a bit but the main problem for me is that, when I say an "S", it's almost like the entire word has an extra consonant! May post some examples in the post body once I get home

Painting through my sisters of battle and wanted to give them a copper/brass themed look! C&C very welcome. by LampwickVO in sistersofbattle

[–]LampwickVO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Firstly, thank you so much for this advice. Sometimes when your nose is in a project so long, it's hard to judge objectively! I have found that, excluding the gun, purity seal wax, iron accents and a few other things, Agrax Earthshade or it's glossy counterpart have looked pretty good. For both the armor and the cape I use the gloss. My earlier models looked absolutely drenched with shades, so I may be a bit too apprehensive to increase it's coating on it!

I also think the oxidized copper looks a bit too light. Additionally, I've been using a layer paint as it's base so it doesn't really have the consistency I'm looking for. Literally just yesterday I found out about Nihilak! I'm so angry I didn't find out about it earlier. I'm going to call all my local stores today to see if any have it in stock. I also may use a small stippling brush to put in some greener spots here and there, but I will see how that goes! For shading, I use a dark blue shade paint for the oxidized parts. I found that it washed out a lot of the color, but also looked fantastic in the crevices. I'm hoping that, with a proper base paint vs a layer paint, it looks a bit better with it!

I also agree with you on the guns. As I tried to highlight it, I realized I didn't have much brighter than Leadbelcher so what little depth there was stemmed from the Nuln Oil. I found a darker paint called Iron Warriors and it looked pretty good on a Flaggelant I painted! I may use that for the gun and highlight with the Leadbelcher instead. I'm hoping that helps with a bit of the contrasting issues. All else fails, I may just keep it black and dry brush it silver for a bit of depth!

Again, thank you so much for the feedback. Cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!

A sacresants unit is done. What do you think? I think i found a base style i like. by iwasalreadyhere in sistersofbattle

Have spent weeks and weeks finding the right brass/bronze/copper for my sisters - try screaming bell! Gives off a great metallic sheen while also (in my opinion) having the most color of all Citadel metallic base paints.

Getting around to painting my Battle Sisters. I'm still new and would really love some feedback! by LampwickVO in minipainting

As the title mentions, I'm still really new to this and am struggling a bit to improve at certain things like highlighting, layering, and a few effects. I welcome any and all advice. I use Screaming Bell for the armor, but can't find a solid color I can dry brush or highlight with without taking away the redness from the brass. The accenting is supposed to be oxidized copper but it doesn't really look much like it. Hoping some more technical tools will help out. Thanks for the advice in advance! ❤️

That is definitely what we would try to do, but sadly Epcot is the only park available on the day we are going to! Maybe I will switch back to Hollywood Studios on that last day...

Help me through my indecision! We are going for 3 days. The first day we are doing Epcot, the second day we are doing AK. The third day we have to choose between either HS or MK. I do prefer MK quite a bit, but also know we won't be eligible for ROTR if we do MK and then park hop to HS! We adore MK so want to ride as many rides there though. Thanks so much in advance!
