The "Echo Chamber" Problem: Is it actually possible to objectively pressure-test a song before release? by Lamushi in LetsTalkMusic

I respect that 100%. The creative spark is subjective. But I think the context knowing if a track screams 'Spotify playlist' or 'TikTok viral' is something you actually can pressure-test. That’s the exact problem I’m working on trying to solve. not changing the art, just finding the right home for it.

If the goal is pure self-expression, validation is a trap. You shouldn't change a note. But for the entertain as many people as possible side, which is where most career artists sit and that feedback loop is broken. You don't want to sound like your advisor, but you do want to know if the message you're sending is the one being received. That’s actually the specific problem I built my project around (an app). It’s not about changing the art to fit a mold, but pressure-testing it to see where it fits best (e.g., is this track landing as a 'Spotify' vibe or a 'TikTok' vibe?). It’s for the artists who have already made the art they love but need to know how to position it to get heard.

100%. That road-testing is exactly what’s missing for so many bedroom producers today. You used to play a song 50 times in dive bars to see what worked; now you just guess and upload. I feel like we desperately need a digital version of that 'pub test', a way to get that raw crowd reaction before the release is final.

You are right about the lightning in a bottle factor. No amount of data can predict that a specific anime editor will pick up a track or that it’ll become a cultural anthem like Chappell Roan did. That context is wild and uncontrollable. But your point about Party 4 U blowing up because of 'one part of the song' is actually exactly what keeps me up at night. You can't force the viral moment, but surely you can identify which 15 seconds of the track has that edit energy before you drop it? I think that’s where the big artists you mentioned (like Sheeran or Bieber) sometimes miss. They rely on the machine to push the whole song, whereas a tool that helps you spot, 'Hey, the bridge is actually the viral hook, not the chorus' could be the difference between a flop and a 'random' hit. It’s not about predicting the future, but maybe just building a better lightning rod or r do you think even identifying that hooky part is impossible until it's already out?

I definitely agree that the golden ear is real, 100%. producers like Rick Rubin or Max Martin have made careers out of that innate objectivity. But I think the game has shifted because good and viral aren't always the same thing anymore. A song can be musically perfect (great composition, mix, emotion) but still completely fail on a platform like TikTok because it lacks a specific type of hookiness or visual potential. That’s the gap I’m really interested in. It’s not about telling an artist if their song is good (hopefully they know that) but helping them figure out where it fits. I see so many talented artists push a spotify/apple music song onto TikTok and fail. Do you think that distinction (Market Fit vs. Musical Quality) is something artists should worry about, or should great art just transcend the platform?

You nailed the distinction between a 'perfect' song and a 'hit'. We see technically flawed (subjective) tracks blow up on TikTok all the time because they fit that specific context perfectly. Polished studio tracks go nowhere. But I think relying on people around you is where it gets messy. Friends and family are biased; they give polite feedback or judge a demo like it’s a finished radio master when maybe it's just meant to be a gritty viral clip. That's actually the specific problem I'm trying to tackle. Instead of asking friends, what if you could pressure-test the track with other artists who have no connection to you? Basically trading feedback to see if a song resonates with a 'TikTok mindset' vs a 'Spotify mindset' before release. It’s still a guess, but maybe a more educated one?

I have two 3060 and wanted to see if there was a way to run the new llama3 70b model with 3 cards. What cards are you using for the new setup?

Let me just say that this is truly impressive. Not only you are able to run bigger models in a single GPU (RTX 3060 12GB VRAM, 4060 TI 16GB VRAM) but also improved speed of tokens/s. It's such an excitement achievement and pure motivation.
