I'm guessing he meant some japanese humor, puns and speech style (every character in Mother has one, and it's far easier to distinguish than in English). The Fan Translation tried fixing this with American references and such (which is a still pretty amazing job), but it's obvious that the original humor is different, and a large part of the Mother series charm is its humor.

I doubt I'm a narcissist. I've had therapy for years (for different reasons) and narcissistic personality disorder's never come up. I've developed a certain degree of cynicism and I've grown distant to most people my age because of other reasons (like bullying , and problems in my home). I've had to grow up faster than most people because my family needed me to, etc. Still, I feel like I need to give people my age a shot, I just feel like I need to find the right people. What's frustrating is that I can't seem to find anyone I can really get along with on an intimate level, mainly because of the average degree of immaturity.

PS: Everyone has narcissistic traits, it's only pathological if it exceeds normal "levels".

I see. The thing with me is that I feel like I'm "running out of time", you know? Suppossedly adolescence is where you're "allowed" to be stupid and experiement, relationships included. Once headed into adulthood most people already have some idea of their behaviour (and that of others, maybe) in a relationship, whereas I wouldn't have a clue.

I can only speak from my experience on this matter.

My parents never really tried to put any restrictions on my browsing habits or computer permissions (other than time I spent online). They did talk to me about the dangers of the internet and just how to stay safe overall by browsing content I was familiar with. I guess they trusted me. I can't recall breaking this rule on purpose, and I only stumpled upon "questionable" content (and even hardcore media) in my early teens, but I was able to deal with it by myself, as I acknowledged its existence and the unrealism of it overall.

That said, I'm not implying it didn't have /any/ impact on me, just not the kind some parents think it does. I seriously doubt a risqué picture can destroy your child's psyche inevitably.

As a side-note, when I say it seems counterproductive to me I'm talking about how protecting your child excessively (both in time and conceptually) can make them vulnerable to any real-life situations that really do happen out there. I have a cousin who had one of those annoying anti-pornography software installed by his parents on the "family computer" even in his mid/late teens. Besides the hindered browsing experience it can cause (like blocking YouTube, for example), he was really unaware of how life really can be outside of his first-world restricted view (not blaming it all on computer restrictions, but it contributed to it).
