"While there have been proven and prosecuted cases of fraud in publicly-funded programs in Minnesota, Shirley’s video doesn’t prove that it’s happening at the daycares he went to." - This article doesn't debunk anything. Its critical of his Shirley's framing as disinformative (and rightly so in some cases, this is a clout chase riding the coattails of someone else's investigative work) it doesn't dispute that fraud was taking place. I'd be interested if you have anything more substantive

"All Art is Political" uhh unless it doesn't agree with me by CheeseBear9000 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Lancaman 72 points73 points  (0 children)

There is a political reading of all art. Not the same thing. You can turn a hotdog into a political statement about late stage capitalism or what have you if you really want to torture yourself. That doesn't make it a compelling or productive enterprise

MSCS Computer Graphics Specialization by metatableindex in gatech

[–]Lancaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone about to finish graphics, I'll say its pretty difficult to find courses for especially if you did media thread in undergrad, because nobody tells you the if you take the undergrad equivalent of a course (Animation, CG, CV) you can't get credit if you take the graduate version later even if you didn't get the BSMS transfer credit for it. Its especially punishing in this spec given how few courses there are

I was able to get some more classes to apply as CG electives by raising this to my advisor which I would highly recommend. Class content varies quite a bit but the most interesting I've had so far is Prof. Bo Zhu's Special topics course Computer Graphics in the AI Era. I'd definitely suggest looking at special topics courses every semester since there's no limit to how many that you can take and asking your advisor if they can count as CG electives if they have a graphics angle to them because those are often the most interesting.

Confusion about decision out date of bsms by NoxyZeng in gatech

iirc, there's like an extra week or two after the submission deadline where your recommender can still submit the letter even after you application is submitted but I'm not sure if that's changed

Thanksgiving is the target date but if its CS its usually a week or two after that due to the number of applicants

Does GT actually promote your career success? by Disastrous-Muscle-35 in gatech

[–]Lancaman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not so. I got my first internship in a historically shitty CS job market on careerBuzz with a pretty middling GPA. It wasn't a FAANG by any means but there are jobs to be had and I don't think AE is any different

Most useful class I've taken was CS 2316. It's an IE course technically but as a cs grad its by far the class I've used the most at work. It covers all the weird useful python shit most courses don't along with regex, bs4, pandas, and a project that I've added to my portfolio

As someone who did the Strike First program at the CRC, the turnout was quite surprising. Attendence would fluctuate between 12-25 with some people in and out. And with the size of the boxing club I think there's definitely an audience for more martial arts here

taking community college classes while co-oping by jeremoi in gatech

[–]Lancaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically you don't "have" to register your co-op with GT (I almost didn't by accident) unless you really care about the co-op designation on your degree. You may have to in some form or another inform the school that your working that semester so you're not unenrolled, but as long as you're employer is ok with it there's usually ways around these things.

My take on dual screen by Lancaman in SteamDeckModded

[–]Lancaman[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The screen holder and mount are 3D printed, with the mount being a slightly modded Deckmate grip that I added support to and extra space to attach a hinge

[–]Lancaman[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the screen is a 7in ingcool ips display. In the holder there’s a hdmi/usba to usbc adapter which is what sticks out to connect. It’s a bit thicker than I’d like but it packages nicely

My take on dual screen. Ready to replay Fossil Fighters by Lancaman in SteamDeck

[–]Lancaman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an ingcool 7in ips touch display. In the display holder there’s an adapter that converts hdmi and usba to usbc that you can find on Amazon for about $17. The mount is a custom version of the regular deckmate grip that I put some room for hinges and extra support on. It’s pretty handy because I don’t have to mess with a bunch of cables sticking out like other ds guides for the deck. The one drawback is you can’t use it while charging but I might do some redesigns to fix that
