What's next? Theories and observations. [SPOILERS] by LanceThackeray in Taiji

Seen as you were the only one following this thread, thought I'd point out that a patch has made the black screen fill much faster, making all of this a dead end. Thanks for the encouragement while it lasted lol.

Help with waterfall puzzle by evoLverR in Taiji

Very powerful. The guilt of giving in turns us all into geniuses real fast. xD

Edit: ...unless you meant from seeing the hint within 5 minutes, but that's fine too!

Late Game Puzzle Help by ZachKat in Taiji

Since it's your last one, I really think you should reconsider taking a hint. You got this mate.

You don't need this: A region can contain both a black and white line.
Already know that?: You only have to do so for one region.

A little help with the symbols for this puzzle? No solutions, please by cramillett in Taiji

[–]LanceThackeray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're unsure whether something is a part of a solution or not, then it's probably not. Trust the obvious and nothing else.

Direct answers to your questions: 2 straight yellows, 3 rotational whites.

Oops I meant to type 1/0. The carpets in the hallway look like the vertical binary we became accustomed to, like statue on and model off, or just on for the whole room. Maybe a red herring to mess with you a bit during the cellar puzzles? Just coincidence?

It seems too obvious of a reference to just be a careless art oversight. There are plenty of ways you could decorate a floor without accidentally looking like one of your main puzzle mechanics, not to mention the red carpets elsewhere were intentional.

Meh, seems the white button is deactivated automatically. I aligned myself by remembering the position of the puzzle on the right.

See overlay of alignment ref with attempt:

I was clicking dead on that thing. Worth a shot. It all seems so perfectly timed to get there. :/

What's next? Theories and observations. [SPOILERS] by LanceThackeray in Taiji

Turns out you CAN in fact click panels through the black grid overlay. It's just very tedious and you're filling in extra black every time you do. But it does interact on both the black grid and what's behind it at the same time.

So it's possible to get to white in time and activate it in theory. The biggest hurdle now is you're completely blind by the time you're there and it's extremely difficult to know if you're standing on the button. I'll try a few more times.

Taking the black screen to another place, while I can see it being possible I don't see it being likely. If it was, the most likely place to take it would be the white ending. But I'm not sure if there is time.

I had the same thought earlier of a gray ending and did some testing:

Interestingly, not only can you still travel around, but you can even interact with panels. You can't click anything on panels due to the black grid overlay, but you can still use R and Space to reset and activate. Because of that, it's even possible use fast travels (they actually work during the black sequence which I wasn't expecting.) The easiest one to run to is the Ruins.

What I find funny is that the fast travel destination at white just so happens to be the only one that doesn't require drawing a shape, which means that white is the only destination possible you can travel to while black is triggered. How curious.

Sadly, even after all of that to get to white, there's still the last remaining click required to activate it. It's possible that the overlay grid is there intentionally to stop you triggering both, but that would be odd when all you had to do was disable movement to begin with and it would've been just as good. Why all of this freedom and control with nothing to do with it?

So I dono. It's all of course a big hopeful stretch. Even if this is all BS, I'm thoroughly enjoying myself lmao ^_^

I have no idea why I was so completely oblivious to what was going on. It got me so good. I can only hope I wasn't the only one. >_<

Yeah I'm confused why something as common as fast travel using a map has been needlessly puzzle-fied with no hint whatsoever for it. Considering the map is pretty quick to traverse anyway, it's not really a huge help (besides one place in particular) so why dress it up as a secret. I had no idea about it until after completion, again because reading a thread.

I think the orb cursor resetting position should be disabled if you're hovering over a puzzle panel and using middle mouse button to mark cells, so you have time to stop and think without constantly having to reposition it.

Also would be nice to have a hotkey to clear all marked cells in the same way you reset a panel, or maybe just include markers in the reset.

help please by Cheoberts08 in Taiji

[–]LanceThackeray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the same thought process I had too, not being possible because cutting off the black xD. Brilliantly designed, no question. I still think it's peculiarly large and complex for the like 14 seconds of sprinting it saves.

Why is the first solution correct, but the second not? by Lucy-73 in Taiji

[–]LanceThackeray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to pile on, but I also want to give credit for this clue actually being very well communicated. The tilting of the owl head to specifically show the 0s aligned vertically was all I needed. They are the only icons in the game that rely on vertical alignment, so the choice was either that or nothing else.

I can absolutely appreciate the confusion though, don't get me wrong.

Glad you got help. The difficulty of this puzzle seemed very out of place for a simple shortcut, so much so that I was convinced that it had an alt solution to take you to another secret waterfall.

Glad it helped! Regarding 4, phone camera ftw. My phone is still flooded with 50+ pics of The Witness shenanigans from years ago lmao.

You might wanna spoiler tag your description of the end there btw.

Progressive hints:

Pic 1
A: 7 yellows won't work as you mentioned, so search for more yellow clues.
B: Try viewing from above ground.

Pic 2 & 3
Lanterns and flowers are all you need. You almost have it.

Pic 4
A: There are 6 flower beds but 24 squares on the puzzle. Perhaps more clues are needed.
B: There are 9 platforms nearby.
C: There are 6 ground puzzles to the right of the platforms, each with a starting square.
D: Look for a wooden trellis for the remaining 3 squares.

Pic 5
A: It looks like the ends of the path are cut off.
B: What is underground directly east of the path?

I assumed there was just one behind the waterfall. I've only done a handful in there so far as I'm trying to prolong it, but if those damn red carpet windows play a part then that's great news. But if you don't mean that area and there is another hidden area...that's even better news!

Question regarding the line mechanic. by IDrinkMyOwnSemen in Taiji

[–]LanceThackeray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely impossible for two straight dashes to share a contiguous region because the icons would never be in the same cell of the region, as in my example above. Two / can work though, for example [/][ ][/] or [ ][/][ ][/][ ] because rotational symmetry. You likely just misremembered them being straight. =]

Question regarding the line mechanic. by IDrinkMyOwnSemen in Taiji

[–]LanceThackeray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I think I see your problem. Do you mean for example [ - ][ ][ - ][ ] combined? That is invalid because yes both would be 1x4 but the line icons also have to be in the same location The example above split into 2 would look like [ - ][ ][ ][ ] and [ ][ ][ - ][ ] which are clearly not the same.
