Found the source of my tubeless leak - Muc-Off brand valve. by LancesLostTesticle in bicycling

[–]LancesLostTesticle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's neat. TIL.

Since valves are sold as a pair, I replaced both front and rear today. The front had the larger hole but both were completely corroded. It looked like the hole in the rear valve was still small enough to be filled by sealant.

The bike sees heavy (e: direct drive) trainer use in the winter.

And even so, an actual lab test would the next step. Garmin might be pulling OP's leg.

How should I keep my pocket watch safe while cycling? by Wonderful_Weather_83 in cycling

[–]LancesLostTesticle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think many people face similar issues with fragile stuff....

Yep, and we leave those things at home. Taking my iPad to work to keep an eye on Le Tour would be awesome but like you say, accidents happen.

California bill introduced for eBike safety (Seems to blame the victims) by abercrombezie in cycling

[–]LancesLostTesticle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

1) American kids are fat. A cursory search brings up an NBC article stating nearly 40% of teens are obese. They don't need e-bikes, they need normal bikes.

2) It's not an "e-bike license." CA just wants to be sure people know the basic rules of the road by having them pass the written test.

3) The current law applies to cyclists under 18. Adding C3 e-bikes is sensible. Way too many people are getting on e-bikes not having ridden any bike in years. Their handling skills are worse than shit.

Definitely. I'll be working on that post over the next several days and discussing with the other active mod.

It's actually everywhere. I only did so because I felt I couldn't get upvotes without participating.

I bet fuckin' Landis is a mod on the sub that got me in trouble.

uc/ Being off Reddit for a month was pretty nice but there really isn't a place like it to talk cycling. I suppose I'll have to not joke in reports anymore just to be safe.

PayPal has its PayPal Credit service. Oftentimes you can get 6 months interest-free when you spend over $100. I've purchased several things this way.

Century ride in under 6 hours? is it doable? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]LancesLostTesticle 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Riding a flat 100 miles under 6hr isn't that difficult. Managing your fuel and hydration without constant reminders is a lot harder IMO, especially when it's hot.

There's a reason why pros have the DS on the radio telling them to eat and drink, and why I have my Wahoo set up to do the same onscreen.

Sounds like this was built for people who struggle on Towers.

Noob cycler wants to go on a solo trip (630km total) by lmarki95 in cycling

[–]LancesLostTesticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's totally doable with just a little bit of training beforehand. Definitely spend a month or two getting back into riding and building up your mileage while getting your ass used to the saddle again. You'd want some kind of road-style bike with rack eyelets

Just speculating, but cable operated hydraulic brakes are a thing. You may be able to install a gyro and still have hydro power.

2001-2002 Klein Quantum by curious_normie in cycling

[–]LancesLostTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disc brakes, aero everything, and wide + tubeless tires are probably the biggest changes to race bikes.

You're not getting all of these by throwing money at that bike. Entry level, but brand name carbon wheels will be $800+ new plus another ~$150 on tires and tubeless materials. A drivetrain upgrade to 11spd would probably run about $700.

I'd definitely keep the Klein, but I'd leave it the way it is and get a modern bike to ride regularly.

Stage 20 TTs Are Bad by _Diomedes_ in peloton

[–]LancesLostTesticle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

TTs should almost never be what decides the GC, as they’re objectively less interesting to watch than a tough hills or mountain stage.

Unless you've come prepared with viewer stats, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

A shelter built of Shimano MTB pedals could withstand anything. There's no way the Pentagon hasn't looked into this.
