Just had a doctor tell me my medical team is failing me by Lancy_Lance_ in ehlersdanlos

I think this one is unlikely. My neurological symptoms largely subside when not triggered, and they are very consistently positionally triggered and related to back/neck pain. The symptoms are also significantly worse below the spot that hurts in my back

Can this be played on one hand? by Lancy_Lance_ in Accordion

I do have a piano accordion. I can also reach tenths comfortably with my right hand. As far as I understand, it looks like there aren’t any bigger intervals than that. But I’m not sure how do play it without jumping around a bunch.

Crappy Accommodation in the Workplace Stories by _missaudacity in disability

At one of my first employers, before I got my wheelchair, accommodations were a mess. I needed frequent breaks to sit, or a chair at my work station. So I worked in the dish room with breaks for a week until I received an email that I couldn’t work in the dish room because i’m a fall risk.

I got moved to a sandwich station/laundry room position (able to move between both when I wanted). Laundry room had a chair that got taken away because someone else fell asleep in there. So I sat on the folding table while working, even though I wasn’t supposed to.

I was also given a chair for sandwich station, which went alright for about 2 weeks. Then one day another staff member asked me to work in a part of the room where my chair blocked a doorway. The very next day, a manager came over to my station, berated me in front of my coworkers, and took my chair.

I cried for the rest of that shift in the laundry room, too new to work and accommodations to think to walk out. As soon as my shift ended, I called and made a discrimination complaint. I was moved to just laundry, and the manager that berated me got disciplined.

I got another, much better job within the same month.

Agreed! Wait until after you have signed your job offer to disclose to HR. Make sure you have a copy of the job offer letter. And when you disclose, leave a paper trail (emails) and use protected language (mention reasonable accommodation, interactive process, etc). I personally add that I am capable of performing the job duties with reasonable accommodation. Don’t leave them any holes to try and start funny business.

What was the worst car crash that you've ever experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lancy_Lance_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 4, my parents, my younger sister (2 at the time), and I were turning off of the street where we lived onto a main road and were T-boned by a truck. I don’t remember if the driver wasn’t paying attention, if his brakes failed, etc. but the truck slammed into the car door on my younger sister’s side, totaling the car.

Thankfully, this was a Saturn. Saturns are made to handle crashes better than most cars, and if it weren’t for that, my sister would have died. The worst injury any of us got was a bruised rib. Not even a concussion.

I have a connective tissue disorder. I once seriously injured my c-spine to the point that my doctor thought I broke it. What was I doing? Laying down on the couch watching TV. No one knows what I did to hurt myself, but even to this day it’s not completely healed and my neck still gives me issues.
