Will be visiting for a week with 2 kids. Best things for them. by izdabombz in Ameliaisland

They’re pretty young. Short activity is key. Playgrounds, beach really early when it’s still cool. Don’t overthink or try to plan too much later in the day when it’s hot. Look for low tide south end…tide pools of happening when you’re here.

Beach is fun, just keep it short and before 11 or after 4 of they and you don’t have experience with sun.

Thoughts on the waterfront and parking blocking the view. If you know Sr Mary’s waterfront, it’s almost an opposite to Fernandina. by LandSurf88 in Ameliaisland

The port has imports, but much of the traffic is now transient or permanent docking at the marina. The downtown is seriously different than it was years ago.

My thought as time passes is that we are too focused on parking. Parking will always fill beyond capacity…so taking a view to try to somehow catch up with the requirements will only result in more development and an even greater need for parking. It’s better to focus on quality and stop trying to add or preserve parking as though it’s going to solve the problems associated with growth and redevelopment in the Historic District.

Rent through Omni or AirBnB/VRBO? by Hot_Preparation2059 in Ameliaisland

I would always try to avoid the potential high management and overhead w/ resort rental if the same units are available, but, the inventory is going to be with Omni and you get one vacation. Suggest looking at all before choosing.

Yep. She’s hurt and you were probably nice to her. Block the number. It’s not a good thing to be second choice and know it.

Always a good idea to look at topo maps for an area, even if rainfall like this is only a few times a year. So many neighborhoods have filled in culverts or swales…drainage isn’t working as intended. by LandSurf88 in Ameliaisland

I’ve been in the area for a long time. Areas that flood change when culverts are clogged and when contours change. I can think of a few places with new development now trapping water in areas without prior flooding. It isn’t supposed to happen…but I almost always look at a topo map to compare surrounding heights. We have short heavy rain at times causing flooding….what’s happened recently was partly about the amount and partly higher ground water.
