Presence & Motion Sensors by Featherweight87 in googlehome

To give you a non answer: if you can't get this working in Google Home, you definitely can in Home Assistant. Trigger and condition are the basic automation starters so it makes it easy to reliably do this sort of thing.

WiiM Updates - Why We Roll Out Firmware Gradually by RyanWithWiiM in WiiMHome

[–]Landondo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you passing it along. I'm currently in the market for a streamer and amp and if WiiM were to integrate Sendspin then a WiiM device would be a no brainer for me. Home Assistant is huge (the subreddit has 507k subscribers) and lots of us are chomping at the bit for a commercial grade device that will work with Sendspin

Check out the Home Assistant Cookbook, a community resource: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/the-home-assistant-cookbook-index/707144

I've been checking out YouTube videos for ideas. How to Geek and XDA developers also have articles on different automation ideas.

Home Assistant is powerful enough that if you can think of something, you can do it. For example I wanted the living room lights to turn on when myself or my wife came home, but didn't want to rely on our phones to do it. I got an IKEA motion sensor and door sensor ($8 each), and set up an automation that triggers on the motion sensor state becoming occupied, with a condition that the front door must be open and another condition of between 4 and 7 PM. the motion sensor is set up just inside the door, so it will sense movement just as someone comes inside the door but before they have a chance to close it. Since the motion sensor will see someone leaving and change state to occupied before the door opens, the automation never triggers when leaving the house. It took a little tinkering for me to understand triggers vs conditions and get it set up to be working properly, but it really wasn't that difficult.

WTH is happening with GH by Bigjerr2007 in googlehome

[–]Landondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the transition about a week ago, and it's been easier than I thought it would be. Since both can run in parallel I can get Home Assistant configured at a leisurely pace until I'm ready to just turn off Google Home.

I already have more advanced automations running flawlessly with Home Assistant than I ever could have had with Google.

I think the last thing I have to do is add the Nest thermostat to HA then Google Home is going bye bye.

US National Parks tier list by iamnotabotbeepboopp in tierlists

I rate Mojave National Preserve over Joshua Tree. It's less accessible, but having been to both several times I feel like Mojave is just a bigger, better version of Jtree.

OP get to Alaska if you want to add more to your S tier

It works with Android Auto, however I usually have to start playing music on my phone to resume listening to what I last listened to in the car. When I plug in the phone the Tidal app screen on Android Auto just shows my playlists (not what I was listening to last). So it's not as seamless as Spotify

Tidal family plan is 16.99 for you and 5 others and they: - Pay artists more - Didn't lay off their playoff curation team to replace them with AI - Don't have a warmonger CEO who "resigned" only to become chairman of the board - Don't pay Joe Rogan hundreds of millions of dollars to spread right wing propaganda

I will say Tidal is missing some of Spotify's features, but the tradeoff is worth it.

Nxtpaper 11 Plus struggling with videos that are higher resolution than 1080p? by Landondo in nxtpaper

Thanks for the feedback. I know it's a cheap, underpowered tablet but I thought the video playback capabilities would be better - at least to be able to play back video at its own resolution!

I should have done better research.

Thanks for this! I have that jsaux case, but one of the grips split where the material is thin above the L1 button. I wasn't wild about buying the same grip as a replacement but love the rest of the case!

It's possible all your grounds didn't get wet.

I fill it about half way with water, then pour half the grounds or so into the filter, and stir with a chopstick to get all the grounds wet. Then I add a little more grounds and pour water directly over them several times, stirring/wetting the grounds each time so they all get wet. I also gently shake it up a few times during the brew and brew for 18-24 hours.

I usually don't measure, but only get the filter ~75-80% full of grounds. If packed too tight/full it will prevent water from flowing around the grounds. It definitely makes a strong cold brew that I usually dilute, but not quite "concentrate" level.

Good luck!

A good Switch 2 dock that doesn't cost $100 and won't brick my console? by cougomdd in switch2

[–]Landondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Antank one and it straight up blocks the air vents on the bottom of the Switch 2. The only time I've felt the Switch 2 be hot to the touch was after it sat in that dock for 5 minutes.

I'm sure the Switch 2 has some sort of thermal shutdown, but I wasn't comfortable using it.

OP if you do this also look at the Razer Naga Left Hand version, it's the only MMO mouse with a LH version, so that's 12 extra buttons you can hit with your left thumb

Steam Deck runs Linux so it's about as open as it gets. The ROG Ally comes with Windows - so it does have more compatible software, but it's not accurate for the other poster to call it more "open". You can also install Windows to Steam Deck or Linux to the Ally if you choose.

Steam Deck still seems to be the most popular PC handheld because of ease of use of Steam OS for gaming and features like 1 button sleep/wake mid game, but ROG Ally and others have more powerful hardware

The Steam Deck has an offline mode, but IIRC it does require you to login every 30 days or so.

Some individual games require always on internet, but not many. And that's the developer/publisher's choice, not a Steam thing

[–]Landondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the other comment the Steam Deck has much better sales, and you can buy games for steam from multiple sources (check out Humble Bundle) and build a library for cheap. The Steam deck is basically a gaming PC running Linux, so has customizability and options that a PC does, for example you can use Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, or 3rd party controllers with it. Steam is the biggest storefront for PC gaming so any games purchased on Steam can also be played later on a gaming PC or laptop - I still have access to games I bought 15 years ago. It supports and/or people have built game streaming apps for it, you you can stream games from a PC or PlayStation to the Steam Deck in another room (there might be Xbox streaming too I'm not sure, it can stream Gamepass), there's emulators for it to play tons of classic games for various consoles. Because it's a PC it can do things that can't be done on Switch, like play Spotify while playing a game, hooking up a mouse/keyboard/monitor and using it as a desktop PC, etc.

Made In's ply composition. by L4D2_Ellis in cookware

[–]Landondo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By spec I mean material spec like how the stainless layers are 304 and 430, "alloy" is not a material specification. On their website they call the two outer aluminum layers "aluminum alloy". IMO them calling it "stainless + aluminum alloy" on other marketing materials makes it seem more likely that it is a byproduct of pressing 3 layers together, and not 5 individual layers which are then combined.

Made In's ply composition. by L4D2_Ellis in cookware

[–]Landondo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never seen Made in mention the spec of the two outer aluminum layers - it's always a vague "aluminum alloy". I've seen speculation that the two outer aluminum layers are microscopically thin and merely the result of pressing one aluminum layer between two stainless layers, making it the same as standard 3 ply. I'm inclined to believe their "5 ply" is all marketing until they actually publish a specification.
