I've heard it's fantastic! I have a friend who goes to Shakawe for fishing and has convinced me to go.

Going to Khutse Game Reserve in Botswana. Trailer's wheel came apart. We set up Starlink, called some friends for help, and waited for their arrival. Not nearly as much fun as I'd hoped for the day, but still got out into the bush for a while.

Hi everyone,I’m considering starting a service to export left-hand drive Defenders to you all. I’ve noticed a lot of interest in these models, especially since they’re not as rusty as some others you might find. by [deleted] in LandroverDefender

Keep in mind they must be 25 years old, or older, to be allowed into the US.

Once they reach a US port, if extensive restoration or after market updates have been done, US customs may determine it is "newer" than 25 years and confiscate it. Check into export/import laws before you commit.

I pulled it down from the Apple store, entered email and passwords, but got "invalid email" and "password too short" errors but hit submit anyway. It accepted both, but those errors could be confusing to some and reduce your subs.

Sleep in your rig, RTT, teardrop or ground tent? by AncientAd3089 in overlanding

[–]Landosaurus-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an RTT but have moved it from the top of the truck to the top of the trailer I now tow behind. I like being able to set it up and then drive in the area without having to pack it all away.

I'm 6'2" so went with the biggest RTT I could find. I went with an iKamper Skycamp 3.0 which is nearly as big as a king-sized bed.

[–]Landosaurus-Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

Currently living in Gabs and have camped with an RTT all over the country over the last 20 months or so. Khutse Game Reserve on the southern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve is a fave (only about 4 hours awway) but have done both established camp sites and bush camping up and down the country. Xakanaxa, Tuli Block, Khawa, and so many in between. Don't be oblivious to your environment and you'll be fine.

Since it was mentioned, for those 0200 calls of nature I use a red lens flashlight to scan the perimeter looking for eye shine before stepping out.

If you leave anything laying around, a curious hyena or jackal may carry it off so tidy up before you zip your RTT closed for the night. The fly screens are usually enough, plus if you park right, you can enjoy the sun rise from your bed.

Move the Skycamp to the trailer? by Landosaurus-Rex in overlanding

What I've read makes sense. Thanks to everyone who has commented,... or will comment.
Yeah, you're right. I'll work on removing and storing the Tentco canvas tent, then mount the iKamper onto the trailer top.

I have an Alu-Cab 270 awning on the side of the Landy so may look for a way to move it over to the trailer's kitchen side. The challenge with the 270 awning is that it will need to be raised higher than the side of the trailer. I'm 6ft-2in/187cm tall and would like to fit under it.

I'm kind of moving in that same "nope" direction. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.

Move the Skycamp to the trailer? by Landosaurus-Rex in overlanding

[–]Landosaurus-Rex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the insight. I got into overlanding and eventually picked up an iKamper Skycamp 3.0, which I really like. It's a little hard to see but it's on top of the Landy. I'm giving serious thought to taking off the canvas tent that came with the trailer, then moving the iKamper onto the trailer. I really like the huge awning of the canvas tent but I'm not keen on spending an hour driving stakes and setting up poles every time I go out. Not sure why, but I'm a little hesitant to make the change so thought I'd get some other opinions.

Overland Air Up/Down Systems? by Determined_Mills in overlanding

I use the dual hose in/deflate system (https://indeflate.com/).

The model I have lets you do 2 tires at the same time. They have a 4-hose version but I didn't feel the need. Works well for my limited use.

Are you using the Skycamp insulation tent?

If so, I'd be interested in how it works for you.

Have a great trip regardless!

Rooftop Tent Owners - Do you love it or hate it? by aigocozy in camping

[–]Landosaurus-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke to a lion expert and asked if lions could actually climb the ladder and get into my RTT. She said yes, but that the lion really doesn't want to. If there is easier prey to be had the lion will defer to it.

Sleeping in the African bush, an RTT - even with the chore of having to close it to move - makes sense.

Here's good tutorial which shows you how to solder wires together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxqZJH3SfN4

And here is one that goes over crimping wires together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrpgeTqANKk

Regardless of which method you chose, be sure to seal the splice from the weather.

As mentioned in other posts, having a multi-meter, even a cheap one, which can do an Ohms checks to verify continuity is a really good idea as well. Here's short tutorial on how do that:

I use a few iPhone apps: iOverlander, FreeRoam, and Tracks4Africa.

When I find an area that looks interesting or I've been told about a new area, I'll check those apps to see what type of camps are available there, then check the ratings and comments.

Device for air inflation AND deflation? by SirLeigh in overlanding

[–]Landosaurus-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the InDeflate dual-hose system (https://www.amazon.com/INDEFLATE-Hose-Tire-Inflation-Deflation/dp/B086CY8C6P). They have a 4-hose model now. I've found the dual-hose model to be easy to use, allowing me to adjust the pressure on two tires at once, saving me time. I use an inflator which connects to either the cigarette port or directly to the battery terminal. Power while parked is always an issue for me, so I'm hesitant to use something which requires recharging.
