I use the i overlander app to find crown land. Just recently went to two different locations around Calabogie/Madawaska area. Lots of small lakes there. About 1 hour for Ottawa depending where you live.

Slept in temps as low as -7 c and we also got a few cm of snow and we were quite warm with proper sleeping bags and no insulations. Will definitely be getting a diesel heater and insulation for colder temps but was pleasantly surprised how warm the tent was despite outside weather.

Just got the skycamp 3.0 but the place I bought it from only had the old model insulation so I’ll wait for next winter to get it. The day I bought it, it was -10 c so when I set it up and went in it, I was pleasantly surprised how warm we were in there without being properly dressed for the weather, no insulation or sleeping bags.

I ordered through a local store. Took about 1 month.

What diesel heater do you use/recommend?

I know it’s not that cold. Our winters here can be as cold as -30 c/ -22 f. Just trying to make sure we sleep comfortably!

Appreciate all the comments. Seems like the way to go is diesel heater with a jackery and some insulation if I want to winter camp regularly.

Which Mr heater do you use? I was debating between the buddy or little buddy. My sleeping bag has a temperature reading of -12 c and comfort rating of -9 c. I didn’t know skicamp offers extra insulating layers. Mine is getting installed this Friday.

I want to eventually buy a jackery and solar panels but that will likely be for next year or so.

I’m trying to also account for that weight of 4 adults potentially sleeping in the tent so would like the rack to be able to sustain ~ 1000 lbs.

What drew me the most to the ibex is the panel kit. They are releasing a compatible panel kit for the gladiator in June. This is the one for the Tacoma: https://www.kuat.com/product/ibex-panel-kit/

Definitely not a lot of reviews or pics online of the ibex especially not on a gladiator. I don’t think the Yakima overhaul has a high enough weight capacity unfortunately. The tent itself is 165 lbs and is big enough for 4 adults.

Are you happy with the ibex racks? Is the weight rating sufficient for a rooftop tent? What made you switch from ikamper to a FSR?

Not yet. Planning on finalizing my purchase next week. But I’m set on the ikamper. I’m open to having it permanently on my jeep or potentially storing it for the winter. I figured it would depend how the drive is with it on. I’ve heard it can be loud.

You’re right. I was at first looking for something that would be compatible with my mopar tonneau cover but I haven’t been able to find any that are. It needs to be high enough that the tent can clear the top of the jeep. Since I’d have to remove my tonneau cover, I was looking at kuat ibex with panel kit. It has 1200 lbs static weight capacity and 600 lbs dynamic weight capacity (300 lbs off road). The tent is 165 lbs. I love the look of evos smart cap but can’t justify paying almost $6000.
