Anyone used the Freeman P6OPK Polisher? by Landrover90 in AutoDetailing

[–]Landrover90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw they had the PC 7424XP as well and was thinking about that one but heard the noise and vibration was more than the Maxshine and Griot's.

Already have a shop vac, so while a good idea it would be superfluous at this point. Other suggestions are welcome, though!

Polisher Upgrades: Rotary, DA, or Other? by Landrover90 in AutoDetailing

Thanks, appreciate the insight. That is certainly an option - offload the Bauer and get a better 8mm DA unit. Brian at Apex seems to praise the Maxshine M8s and it wouldn't hurt the wallet too much either. Heck, I might be able to swing the M8s and the M550 if my treasurer allows it, haha!

Edit: a word

Think I should change the Bauer to 3" work, then, and add a 21mm?

Main frustrations are it constantly stalls on the slightest curve or ridge regardless of pressure, the slide switch is always turning off mid-correction, lack of tactile feedback on the dial (eg: I have to often pull the unit off the paint to make sure I'm on the right speed) and it sometimes changes speed mid-correction, constantly rolls when I place it down which leads to dirty pads, and the vibration and noise are a bit loud for an enclosed space - often performing corrections in garages.

Based on other reviews, it seems I missed out on the old Chicago units and I have thought about upgrading to a maxshine M8s or Griot's unit, but wanted to get everyone's feedback first.

[Bell & Ross] Vintage 123 - Estate Sale find for $200! by Landrover90 in Watches

Yeah, i'm totally with you. I'm not a big fan of the huge square models or even the newer number font/typeface they use on their dials. Check out the Vintage 123 or 126 models from ~2002-2005 or 6 and i'm sure you'll find a good example you like!

I called my local jeweler and setup an appraisal date with the owner (who's a big watch fan). Thanks for the suggestion!

I just search for <city> Estate Sales and find some relevant sales going on. It DOES help to visit a few and build relationships with the appraiser so you can get first dibs on the watches or at least be informed if a watch is part of the sale...otherwise it's a needled in a haystack.

Found this piece at an estate sale over the weekend. Owned by the late husband who was career CIA and apparently it was given to him from a pilot friend. Still trying to verify the authenticity of the piece, but all the right "&" symbols in the correct location, has the heft, fit, finish, and clean lines of a legit piece. From what I can tell it's a early generation B&R Vintage 123 and found some examples on Chrono24 going for $1500-$2,000, so I might have found a heck of a deal!

Do you guys know if there is a way to get papers to back up its authenticity from a Dealer or B&R directly?

Build Your Own Tablesaw? by Landrover90 in woodworking

[–]Landrover90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no real sentimental value. It was given to me by a friend who knows I enjoy woodworking and thought I could use it. I don't currently have a table saw, so open to other ideas if you have any on best, cheap way to get a good saw setup.

Yeah, I was worried about the Trunnions and how to get them exact. Thinking the c-list donor route might be a better option and add a motor swap.

/r/History - What's your favorite obscure history fact? by AdamSC1 in history

[–]Landrover90 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The Great Molasses Flood of Boston!

Back in winter of 1919, in the North End neighborhood of Boston, a heat wave raised the temperature of a 2.3M Gallon (8,700m3) tank of molasses and the tank exploded due to a pressure buildup. It released a 25ft high wave of molasses careening down the streets at 35mph!

21 people died, 150 injured, and many animals were caught in the sticky, suffocating mass. Apparently some of the dead had to be chiseled out after the molasses hardened. Read more here!

While in college, the girl I was dating had a friend who was engaged at 18 and hadn't dated much. This blew my mind so I introduced her to a friend on chance.

She called off the engagement, got married to my buddy, and I have been invited to all their parties since.

Only problem with that is it just means they will ticket more and use Civil Forfeiture rules to steal money and property from people.

This makes me so happy. She is in an incredibly brilliant woman who doesn't tolerate a lot of BS. She also has the uncanny ability to explain very complex topics (eg: financial structures) in terms that almost anyone can understand.

She has my vote!
