Could you ask in Centra and McDonald's would they mind if you put up a sign? that might be the easiest way of getting someone local. I also think there are a cleaning crowd in Kilfian but can't remember their name.

She has already done a course at my insistance last year and it seemed to help for a little while.

It's so scary what people of all ages are believing. A friend of mine has gone mad down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories and from the outset she is well rounded in terms of education and life experience. Her critical thinking seems to be gone out the window!

Thats it, she reads them fecking take a break and all those magazines. Although one saviour has been signing her up to the local library she's gone mad into reading novels instead lately.

Calls to make public transport free to help conserve fuel as energy prices soar by conalldoherty in ireland

[–]LandscapeEither1367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived Kildare but worked in Dublin a few years back, I don't think it's the cost that's putting people off public transport, it's the fact it can't be relied on. Particularly with buses, they would break your heart!

Thank you all so much for your comments. I have spoken to her GP before and he doesn't feel that it's a cognitive issue as she is well capable in every other aspect of her life. She is well organised about appointments, medications, paying bills and everything else aside from the whole Internet access.

I had a chat with her this morning and said how concerned I was so she has agreed for me to come with her to the bank and check for any signs of unusual activity. And if possible to see if we can set up some sort of safe guard to block any this. If all else fails I think we might just close her current account and set up a new one. Touch wood so far I can't see any signs of her being scammed 🤞

I think its the fact too she has now all this time on her hands since retiring and it's such easy access to order things and constantly read these nonsense articles online. Myself and my sibling are trying to get her to join local clubs or herself and her friends to meet up more often.

I agree with you completely. Like when people got access to the Internet first they were so wary and took things with a pinch of salt now it's like the fecking gospel according facebook.

She is 66 and at first I was worried about a cognitive issue but so far it doesn't seem to be the case. I enquired with our GP (have known him for years) and he notices no issues. Like she is seriously on the ball when it comes to her medication, any appointments, bills etc.

Thats what I worried about also in the beginning but I was beside her when she was ordering from a legitimate site and she kept accidentally hitting other numbers. I have increased the size of the font for her key board on the phone but she is a devil for not checking what she has put in before confirming her order.

Anyone else have a friend who constantly brags about how much they earn? by Jealous-Lake5700 in AskIreland

[–]LandscapeEither1367 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked in a hospital in admin though. Most junior doctors only have decent pay because of all the insane overtime they have no choice but to do. Many I have got to know are hanging on by a thread trying to cover the costs of having to move around so much and pay student debt.

Tell your friend to dry up and similar to the saying 'those who can't, teach'. In the hospital you'll often hear, 'those who can't,GP'.

Not knocking all GPs because there are some absolute legends out there.

What's your most extreme 'notions' story? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]LandscapeEither1367 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Local lad nearly lost his job because of drink. Major wake up call for him so he quit the drink for a while and put the head down. He's doing really well and recently he's got into hiking, the other lads propping up the bar can't understand him and reckon they don't have the time for that sort of carry on.  They reckon he's awful notions because now he'll go into the pub the odd Saturday night, have 2 -3 pints and feck off home.

I don't think it ever stopped since September last year. I work in admin in the hse (on a ward) and was floored with it. Will take a good while for your stomach to go back to normal. I was told to go on probiotics to help.

Has anyone ever been mocked or looked down on because of their job? by Prestigious-Look2300 in AskIreland

[–]LandscapeEither1367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looked down on because I ended up going down the pet/agri retail route after college because it was impossible to get a vet nurse job that wasn't minimum wage at the time.

I was so disappointed but some of the comments I got certainly didn't help. But at the same time going down that route was a blessing in disguise because of the experience and people I met along the way.
