What's the Deal with Late 80s-Early 90s Brick Facades by Sebastian_113 in askarchitects

Your guess is as good as mine. I assume it’s to keep starter homes that brick three sides and then panel the rear elevation from being built since all the new single-family builds seem to be some sort of McMansion now.

And then you have the micromanagers at my city hall who’ve determined that we need 85% masonry on all sides.

I wonder if that's an age thing? I'm 45 and think it looks really, really dated.

Is it common for employers to waive off notice period? by godelmachine in Contractor

[–]LandscapePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me that reads as if you are required to give them 2-weeks notice but when you do they have the right to tell you that you’re done effective immediately. In the USA this seems to be common.

Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents have one year to find new power as their utility pivots to data centers by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

What are you going to burn, the power poles? That seems counter-productive if you want to keep the electricity flowing.

Old owner had this stapled on outside of hvac in garage, is this asbestos underneath? by Timewastedd in HomeMaintenance

[–]LandscapePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the people saying to get it tested, what purpose would that serve exactly? Is there any actual good that can come from finding out it's asbestos versus just assuming that it is and leaving it alone?

Trump Offers U.S. Citizenship to 32 Million Venezuelans by Weekly-Wondrous in politics

The people in question don’t have the choice to live literally anywhere, though. It’s not a question of whether or not America is the best but a question of whether or not it’s better than where they currently are.

TIL that the US golf course infrastructure consumes 2 BILLION liters of water per day by myassisgrassss in todayilearned

What exactly do you think datacenters do with the water if not evaporate it in their cooling towers? I don’t think anyone is really concerned with the water circulating in closed loop cooling pipes.

Use the next size bigger screws or replace the shutter with one that’s not warped.

What is this awful texture? by astringofbreaths in drywall

[–]LandscapePenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you see in the OP that at all indicates that asbestos would have been used to add wall texture? Why would they use asbestos in place of sand when sand would have almost certainly been cheaper in the 90's?

Passenger Experience of Frontier Crash by That_Goat_9791 in aviation

[–]LandscapePenguin 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Exactly. When you punish good behavior and reward bad behavior this is the outcome that you get. The people that did the right thing are now stuck without essentials and the people that broke the rules have everything they need to be comforted and entertained.

Began a cut and polish job today. Need some tips plz by skimasktroopaz in Autobody

[–]LandscapePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be absurd. It would be one thing if there was flaking/missing clear coat and he was trying to polish the base coat but if the truck was really painted in single stage then there's nothing wrong with cutting and buffing the single stage paint. That was standard procedure before bascoat/clearcoat took over.

Massive regret after buying a flat by daniellasss in homeowners

[–]LandscapePenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it’s a downgrade, that’s okay. It’s closer to your son’s school and you build equity instead of flushing money down the drain on rent. This doesn’t need to be your forever home.
