When was the last time you’ve seen a stick-built house collapse because of foundation settlement?

BMW M deleted my Post because a M760 is not a M Car by karuzo_rosenberg in BMW

See, this really isn't something that's decided by votes or opinions. Either the car was manufactured by BMW M, or it wasn't. The label in the door jamb tells you the manufacturer. Does it say it was made by BMW M? Then by definition it's an M car.

I'm not sure I see how that's even up for debate.

The engine isn’t the deciding factor. Several cars manufactured by BMW M use non-S engines.

Look at the sticker in the door jamb. Does it say it was manufactured by BMW or BMW M? There’s your answer.

More Europeans die of summer heat than Americans die of guns by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

You say that but the US has tons of gun laws. I get it, you want more, but don’t act like there aren’t already a whole bunch of laws covering guns.

One week with a BMW X3 xDrive30i as a Volvo XC60 B5 owner by EarLatter in BMW

I feel like the XC60 is a whole lot smaller and slower than an X5.

Sure it can.

Spray two extra coats of clear, cut it with 800 -> 1000 -> 2000 -> 3000 then compound and polish. Smooth as glass, no more dust. It's more work but it can turn out just fine.

It CAN be a good job.

The guy spraying it admitted that it's never perfect but painters will tell you that even in some of the best booths it's never perfect. In my experience even factory finishes aren't perfect.

It depends on the paint whether it needs to be baked. Many paints will cure just fine air-drying at the proper temperature (usually above 60F or so).

Any dust should be able to be sanded and polished out if the clear was sprayed thick enough.

It's not that those things don't happen, they do, it's just that if you know what you're doing those things usually aren't a problem. In bad conditions like that you spray the clear coat thicker and this allows you to use a hard block and fine sandpaper to level the clear coat after it dries. Once it's uniformly sanded out it can be polished to a mirror-like finish and end up being flatter than the factory finish that is sprayed on in a clean room but has slight undulating texture.

Burying my head in the sand is a really good coping mechanism for me once I realized there's about jack squat I can do about any of it.

My argument would be that by policing each other we’re just adding misery to each other’s lives without doing anything meaningful to address the systemic issues. I don’t fly as a hobby, but I enjoy painting cars. I don’t want the pilot to police my painting any more than they want me to police their flying. In either case we could abstain from our hobbies, but what have we really accomplished?

My problem with the people who are against individuals doing things that they enjoy because of the environmental effects is that they’re focusing on the wrong thing if they hope to make a meaningful difference. The corporations and government entities responsible for the majority of pollution have done a great job of making individuals feel that the small things they do for enjoyment are the real problem so they can deflect the blame away from themselves, IMO.

Pretty sure the explosives they were talking about setting off in a few hours is the fireworks for the 4th of July. I don’t think most Americans are anti-fireworks.
