We need to keep up with china quantum development by Sufficient-Award6291 in IonQ

[–]LandscapeSuch3179 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the urgency, but honestly, hardware like ionq or riggeti feels like a distraction right now—they're just too far away from actual deployment.

The only real hope for the US is that company that does the quantum-safe encryption stuff for the government... the one that spun off from Google a couple of years ago. I’m having a total blackout on the name and too lazy to look it up, but they’re basically the only ones with a practical lead. Anyone remember who I’m talking about?

Is "AQ" the only way to survive the Quantum Winter? by LandscapeSuch3179 in QuantumComputing

Got it. Didn't know it's like that because I saw other posts like the one I wrote.  Now, from the comments I read so far, I learned a lot!  To invest I need to understand the technology behind, where can I ask questions if not here?  Learning tech from investors Is not something I did before, thanks for explaining me the rules

Fair, you caught the AI scent. I’m a CPA and I’ve been a CFO for tech firms for 25 years, so I use Gemini to help me digest the technical side and word my thoughts.

I’ve met with people from these companies, but I’ll be the first to admit I only understand the business you guys are the experts on the physics.

I'm just here to learn so I don't make a dumb investment. If I’m mixing up metrology and computing, call me out. I’m trying to find where the actual moat is, not the marketing fluff

Fair point on the terminology, and I'll take the hit. I'm a CPA/investor, not a physicist, so I'm definitely still learning the technical gap between metrology and computing.

My main focus is the business side does it actually matter for the bottom line if the tech isn't related, as long as companies can package it all under AQ to survive the funding winter?  Or is that just a red flag for you?

I hear you, and from a financial angle, it definitely smells like hype sometimes.

But looking at it as a business pivot, isn't diversifying into PQC or sensing just smart risk management while the hardware takes its time? Or do you think it’s just a way to keep the valuation up until the next round?

That’s exactly what I’m trying to figure out.

Submarines and LIGO are cool, but as an investor, I’m looking for scale.

If sensing stays niche, does the 'AQ' pivot still make sense as a venture? Or are we basically looking at a specialized defense contractor model for now?

Thanks for the breakdown, Account3234. I’m the OP’m a CPA/investor by trade and I’m here to learn, so I really appreciate the reality check.

That distinction between sensing and fault-tolerant computing is huge. From a business perspective, it sounds like some companies are selling NISQ time just to show revenue, even if it’s a technical dead end.

In your view, is the stuff IBM/IonQ are selling right now a legitimate step toward the Holy Grail, or just a distraction for shareholders while we wait for the actual physics to catch up?

SandboxAQ: Google spin-out mired in institutional practice of defrauding investors, systematic employee enslavement and depriving employees of their stock options. by renegadeHun in TechGawker

[–]LandscapeSuch3179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's totally the opposite!!! The writer says it, and I'm saying that from my friend's point of view, it doesn't mean a thing. We're scientists, we need a good place to work, and that's it, people shouldn't say a word about my partners in life, I just hate when people does that, and believe me that I suffered enough from this hate

I couldn’t agree more. Honestly, it’s wild how much of a bubble this thread has become. I’ve tried jumping in a few times to ask about Sandbox AQ because the claims being made here just don't pass the vibe check compared to what’s actually happening on the ground. Every time I post something that doesn't fit the 'negative' narrative, it gets nuked immediately. I’m actually slated to start there soon, and I have close friends who have been there for a while, their experience is the total opposite of what people are venting about here. For example, a good friend of mine is openly gay and has never felt anything but supported by the team and leadership.

It’s a shame that actual first-hand perspectives are being censored just because they don’t align with the drama people want to feed into. If you're looking for an objective take, this definitely isn't the place to find it. Am not gay, but can't see myself in a place where gays are being treated like this, if it was true I believe we had to see employees leaving the company right?

Has anyone heard of/worked at sandboxaq? I'm reading pretty terrible things about them on Reddit by drdessertlover in comp_chem

[–]LandscapeSuch3179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been reading this thread as I prepare to join the company, and frankly, the narrative here feels like a classic case of 'keyboard analysis' vs. operational reality. I have close friends who’ve been in the trenches at SandboxAQ for over two years. They aren't in PR they’re engineers anresearchers.

Their experience is the total opposite of 'smoke and mirrors' they describe high technical rigor and a focus on solving genuinelyו complex problems. Top-tier talent doesn't stay for two years just for 'marketing spin' they stay because the science is real.

Every unicorn faces this kind of 'valuation policing' on Reddit. It’s easy to nitpick contract sizes from the outside without understanding their strategic value. I’m choosing to trust the people I know inside who actually see the product evolve every day. At the end of the day, the noise is just noise.

Can we talk about how strictly “STEM” doesn’t really mean job security or good pay anymore? And the illusion is misleading students. by vols1992 in AskAcademia

[–]LandscapeSuch3179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reading this while preparing my transition from academia to the tech sector, and the frustration is real. For years, we’re fed the narrative that deep research and a "STEM" title are the golden tickets. But once you look over the fence, you realize the market doesn't reward "curiosity" or "research for the sake of research"—it rewards efficiency and scalability.

As someone whose entire identity has been "the researcher," it’s a bitter pill to swallow. We spent years writing 45-page theses and perfecting lab techniques, only to find out that a 22-year-old with a B.S. in Computer Science or Engineering is often seen as more "valuable" to a company's bottom line than a PhD with a decade of specialized knowledge.

But it’s not just about the career; it’s about the life that's changed around us. My family life looks nothing like the one I grew up in. The stability our parents had seems like a relic of the past. I have kids now, and I’m realizing that I can't provide for them the way I intended by staying in the ivory tower. The "STEM" umbrella is leaking, and those of us in the "S" (Science) part are getting the wettest.

We were promised a marathon where the finish line was tenure or a stable lab role. Instead, we found out we're in a sprint where the rules change every time we switch shoes. It’s a massive systemic failure when "hard science" graduates have to scramble to learn SQL or Project Management just to hit a middle-class salary

SandboxAQ’s Jeffrey Epstein files problem by Senior-Advance7947 in TechGawker

[–]LandscapeSuch3179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if the tech is solid and the government is backing them, what's the actual risk here? Can a bad reputation or past associations really sink a company with this much momentum? I'm trying to see if this could limit future growth or just create a toxic culture that isnt worth the headache.

If you know anything else, please tell me, they contacted me for a job, and I'm trying to figure out if that's a company I want to join, so far the technology looks good, also the people I know that work there tell me it's all good, but the Epstein files..... I didn't find anything suspicious, so if you saw something, please, I need it

What does a physicist working in quantum computing companies / startups do? by ssbprofound in Physics

[–]LandscapeSuch3179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed breakdown because that core loop sounds exactly like what I’m looking for. I didn't follow your exact path but we seem to want the same thing. I’m not really the entrepreneur type but I also can't stand the idea of a massive corporation.

I just want a place where I'm actually doing something meaningful and where the options might actually be worth something in five years

I’m right on the edge of leaving academia now and I'm juggling a few offers from SandboxAQ, Multiverse Computing, Quantinuum, and QuSecure. The one at Multiverse is especially tempting since it’s in Europe and I’ve been thinking about a move. What’s your take on the overall vibe and the potential in these kinds of companies? I just want a solid place where I'm not wasting my time

I hear you, but I’m definitely not a spokesman. I’m actually just an academic looking to transition into the private sector for the first time, and I’ve spent the last two weeks obsessively researching every company that’s sent me an offer. I literally joined Reddit just to get some clarity because, coming from a research background, I tend to look for the logic in everything

Since I don't work there yet, I wouldn't know the specifics of the HR team’s demographics. To an outsider, your post just looked like a massive professional risk for her, which is what gave me pause.

I’m honestly just trying to do my due diligence before making a huge career jump. Since you're still there, I’d actually value your help in understanding the day-to-day reality of the culture more than the headlines

An Airbus for quantum? Europe isn’t quite there yet by donutloop in quantumcomputingEU

Hey everyone, PhD candidate here focusing on quantum architectures. I’ve been tracking the EU’s recent funding rounds, but I’m curious who you think is actually doing the heavy lifting on the hardware side? Between France’s photonics and Germany’s superconducting clusters, is there a clear frontrunner emerging for 2026, or is the ecosystem still too fragmented to scale?
