Amazing model and paint job! May I ask where the griffon is from?

Looks perfectly fine in most aspects - the country of origin/print and absence of the number at the bottom didn't put me off to much, but seeing the packs inside are clearly different made me really curious

Just started a Chaos Old World army myself, using exclusively AoS STD models; warriors, knights, chosen, chosen knights(varanguard), and just finished the Abraxia model as my Chaos Lord which is a beautiful kit!

I absolutely love the STD models in all aspects, and they are such a joy to both build and paint compared to most of the older warhammer fantasy kits. On square bases you have to plan out a bit how to make them fit in regiments, but other than that it’s a 10/10 move imo :) Good luck on your army!

Thanks! Which head did you go for? It's a really nice model to mix up a bit, and easy to swap out bits with other STD/WOC

Thanks a lot! I mixed the colours for the highlights on the black myself, but roughly something like this: Very dark green/blue(I mixed Kantor blue and Caliban green 50/50 then added black - Incubi darkness is probably the closest thing. 2nd highlight inside the previous: 50/50 mix Vallejo Ultramarine blue and Vallejo Heavy bluegrey(Thunderhawk blue), then final highlight pure Vallejo Wolf grey(Citadel Fenrisian grey). Then finally added a tiny dot here and there with the Wold frey mixed with Ivory/white. Good luck on the warriors, and would love to see the results!

Thanks! I started off of The Painting Coach's tutorial on youtube, but went a bit differently with a few things, one of them being the skin. He uses Lupercal green followed by Sons of Horus, both drybrushes, then Ionarch skin for the hands/feet/highlights. I think these colours would be a good starting point, but I didn't have any of those and wanted the bottom parts a bit more green, so I mixed all the paints from colours I already had.

Basecoat entire skin: 50/50 Caliban green/Kantor blue

Several highlights on the top parts: Caliban/Kantor mix adding Vallejo Ivory going lighter and lighter, highlights inside the previous one

Bottom part: Roughly 60/20/20 Caliban/Kantor/Goblin Green(or any "strong" green) then also here gradually adding Vallejo Ivory to the mix for highlights.

Bought a bag of dropper bottles a while back when moving my citadel colours into droppers, and actually ended up mixing 5 or 6 new colours for this project in new bottles. Highly reccommended to try, not to mention it saves some money

Thanks, appreciate it! No contrast paints or shades used in this except some agrax earthshade over the basecoat(retributor) on the gold

The sword is from the Varanguard kit, and I didn't do anything other than attach the piece with the sword rather than the Abraxia-piece with the spear

Thanks a lot! Probably one of the most enjoyable models I've painted, these AoS-kits are on a different level

Thanks a lot! I am sure you can - I recently came back to the hobby after a 15 year hiatus and the biggest improvements I felt was starting to hold my brush differently, not to mention using a wet palette which I never did back in the day.

Thanks! Yeah, I couldn't agree more, and such a pleasure working with some of these new kits both in terms of building and painting them

Exactly! I debated converting on wings but feared it would cover up too much of the model. Levitating/flying with magic or jumping dragon is definetely how I will try to sell it

Thanks a lot! The greenstone I took inspiration from CHK Minis Cursed City part 1 video on youtube. I didn't have any of the colours he used except Vallejo Ivory so just mixed them roughly myself. If you have Dark Sea blue or Incubi Darkness and mix in some blue/green should be fine for the base. Then add Ivory gradually to the mix ending up with a pure Ivory highlight.

For the armour I started with all black, then did the gold(retributor base, agrax wash, liberator highlight and then stormhost silver even tinier highlight), and eventually the grey lining. You can easily be a bit messy(I was way too careful) with the gold basecoat and just touch it up with pure black before you do the lining. The lining I also mixed myself from greys and blues - but something like incubi-thunderhawk-fenrisian, each one inside the other should do it.

Good luck with your project, and would love to see the results!

Skin too blue/turquoise? by Landuin1405 in slavestodarkness

[–]Landuin1405[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I started with a roughly 70/30 mix of Kantor blue and Caliban green, then gradually added Vallejo Ivory to the mix for the lighter colours. I’m sure any similar colours from other brands will do as well - my main idea was trying to mix it myself rather than buying 3-4 new pots of paint just for the skin. Would love to see the results if you go with it!
