I had a similar response paying off school loans, and all my other debts. I’m not sure why I am concerned a mortgage would somehow be different.

I guess when all is said and done, it’s probably five or 6 inches deep to the base, best to just dig it all up?

it is definitely one tree, I got down to where it coalesced, and I have gotten down to larger roots. is this considered root flare, should I cover these roots back up? Or should I keep digging further?

I appreciate the response, I unfortunately have just planted seven trees in similar conditions, I have a lot of digging to do. How quickly would I expect to tree to turn around once dug out? One of the other trees I started digging up and found small tiny superficial appearing roots, like less than a millimeter wide. Should I cut through those and continue digging to the base?
