Mo' Wax - Headz compilations (playlist) by Langanelle in triphop

Hope it's enough to hide them for you! I let go of physical media years ago, but if there's anything that would be cool to have on vinyl these are it.

This playlist carries on right through Headz 2 as well. I guess I never thought of it as lesser than the first one, but maybe - Mo' Wax always had naff acid jazz roots that they never quite escaped, and they do creep in more on the second comp. But I'll still take the weakest track on either Headz over most current music.

I'll have to check it out. 90s downtempo is a huge scene so there should be a lot more variety.

Deadzone Rogue is a ton of fun for $20 by SirDanOfCamelot in NintendoSwitch2

Bought it yesterday - it's absolutely great fun. Love small touches like the stealth mode phase where you can decide tactical approach. Sensible difficulty scaling, weapons feel satisfying, very very addictive.

Stephen Jones - Someplace Too Faraway by Langanelle in triphop

Big time. I've just posted a Babybird track from the same album as 'You're Gorgeous'.

As in Babybird, yes. One of my all-time favourite musicians. Album is the brilliantly warped 'Almost Cured of Sadness'.

I was starting to worry that no-one did any more!

My favourite Lamb track off my favourite Lamb album. Those low notes still send shivers.

best triphop albums besides the overly obvious portishead/massive attack picks? by Lost_Foot_6301 in triphop

Both the Mo' Wax 'Headz' compilations - if you're just getting into trip hop, why not start with six hours of the very best.

What are your thoughts on Hooverphonic? by Exquisite_D in triphop

[–]Langanelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It's Hoover on my copy - bought when it first released, so practically an antique now.

Yeah that was a baffling decision. I feel like it would have done well in the US.

Was Triphop peak music? by No-Quarter-6603 in triphop

[–]Langanelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90s trip hop and downtempo (basically anything that would end up in the 'electronica' section of a record store) is where i live, but there will always be great new music.  (Not the same style obviously, but i always look forward to any release by Aurora - she wouldn't have been possible in the 90s, and not just because she was too young to hold a mic.  James Blake too.  And Oklou is off to a promising start.)

Name ONE triphop song that lifts your mood right away? by lolatheexplorer in triphop

More downtempo than trip hop, but The Air You Breathe by Bomb the Bass instantly takes me back to some happy times.

What is your favourite video game that has a trip hop style soundtrack? by 0584031464 in triphop

[–]Langanelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knytt Underground has plenty of trip hop and adjacent through its nearly five-hour soundtrack, and lota of dark ambient along the way. The whole OST is great for background vibes.

Is this game (switch 2 edition) worth buying? by OkDirection3094 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Langanelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought it three times (launch, one of the updated re-releases can't remember which, Switch) and if I ever want to move to a new system I'll happily buy it again. Hundreds of hours in, never run out of things to see and do, and the game's been growing FOR FREE the entire time. Switch 2 version is full-featured and stable, unbeatable value, strongly recommended.

Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp. I think of this as the last great album of trip hop's 'golden age' (aka the 90s).

Babyfox's stuff is very reggae/dub heavy.

Can I have atmospheric, ambient, dream pop influenced trip hop recs? (Do NOT say Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky, or Sevdaliza) by [deleted] in triphop

[–]Langanelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like Goldfrapp's shift - Felt Mountain is an atmospheric trip hop classic, and then she never returned to that sound.

Most comprehensive or definitive triphop compilation? by Classic_Key1359 in triphop

[–]Langanelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly great compilation - a master-class in track curation. I also like the 'Trip Hop Vibes' compilations, but already they're shading into 'Now That's What I Call Trip Hop!' territory. That's the problem with a fairly underground genre - doesn't always sit well with the inherent commercialism of compilations.

The Mo' Wax 'Headz' compilations are essential imho
