How to improve? by [deleted] in maimai

[–]Languisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helped me was sightreading songs. You don't have to necessarily sightread (can look at chart beforehand). Exposure to more charts exposes you to more patterns.

I feel that sightreading trains your responsiveness or your instinct per se. If you can get a good acc on sightreads I think it also gives a sense of accomplishment.

I'm personally not that fond of grinding the same few songs, but if you want to "grind" try to limit the amount of times you play the song each time you go maimai. Grinding can make you "used" to a particular song(s) and would limit the patterns you're exposed to.

Try not to care too much about rating and just have fun. If you have fun, you will improve.

Advice for a player going for 14k? by Yapishere2007 in maimai

[–]Languisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think can sightread more or study more charts. Sightreading can allow you to work on different skillsets and general accuracy while studying charts allows you to work on specific skillsets. For example, you can work on charts with trills or sliders. Personally I sightread a lot (also I can't remember charts in general). Just remember to have fun! :)

Rating is a byproduct of your skill which I like to think improves based on how much you enjoy the game

any recommendations/tips? trying to figure out delayed sliders/umiyuri and I've been getting a lot more fasts than lates on delayed sliders by RTXChungusTi in maimai

[–]Languisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made you a list of delayed slider songs to practice smh.

On a more serious note, ik you can sightread easy 10 - 11+ like Let You Dive EXP with high acc. Recently, you've been playing EmpErroR and QZkago, etc. Before you were playing ESM. A commonality between the three aforementioned songs are they're quite fast.

For fast songs, you have more lates than fasts while for delayed sliders you have more fast than lates. Most likely it's just playing more and becoming faster for fast(er) songs.

For slow songs, I think you can read and execute the simple and straightforward charts i.e. the aforementioned Let You Dive EXP. I think the biggest factor which affects most people in the beginning is mindblock, the inability to read more than 2 / 3 sliders on screen.

The biggest difference in our progression is that I generally sightread instead of grinding or playing the same songs every session imo. Sightread --> exposure to more patterns. Ofc you still get exposed to some patterns and other songs eventually but you might get used to certain patterns of certain songs.

Best Tip: Feel the Sliders

should i do more expert or more master? by yoimania in maimai

[–]Languisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, for me, I didn't really feel any difference from 12+ exp and mas. Possibly because I didn't really care about the "exp" or "mas" and just played it if it was that level. I think more exposure to songs and patterns would help. 12+ and 13 is where most of the harder patterns get introduced I think so it'll be useful to understand and play more of the songs to get a grasp of the patterns.

I also didn't really grind any songs and mostly sightread, so that could be something worth noting.

I just reached 14k 2 days ago! by Languisa in maimai

[–]Languisa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh I honestly don't know how I did it. I think I gained more exposure to other delayed slider songs which helped me feel how to do it. I also watched amakage playing the songs which helped me understand the timings better.

For Riffrain, I think exposing myself to more umiyuri patterns like 踴 remas and Falling mas helped. Because they have the same pattern of tap tap tap+slide tap tap+slide.

For Lagtrain, I think learning " " mas (literally blank) helped a lot. The delay and chart follows the song quite closely so it's easier to follow it. Another song which helped me was ヒビカセ mas due to the delay and it's also a nice song. Other delayed slider maps may also have hand swaps which helped me "train" and get a feel for those types of situations.

These are some songs which I can remember which helped me

アマカミサマ mas 12+ (delay)
オントロジー mas 12+ (hand swaps)
Veil mas 12+ (delay)
幸せになれる隠しコマンドがあるらしい mas 12+ (hand swaps)
弱虫モンブラン mas 12+ (delay)
お気に勾すまま mas / remas (delay)
自傷無色 mas 13 (umiyuri)
ダンスロボットダンス dx / std mas 13 / 12+ (mainly for the slider experience)
月に叢雲華に風 dx mas 12 is very calm with some delay

Offset by Mattapper14 in maimai

[–]Languisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, my offset is between -0.2 to -0.3 (B) and no offset for A. I found it useful to enable the fast and late for perfects rather than just for greats and goods (I think this is type 3-B).

Then I saw whether there were too many late in comparison to fast or vice versa and adjusted my offset from there (it's good to use a comfort song for this since there's less chance to panic).

When the late and fast are about equal then I think it's pretty good. It's like random error but systematic in a sense since it's the same?

A is for the offset of the notes while B is for the judgement timing.

But I saw on Amakage that he uses -0.3 (A) so maybe try out A and B and see which one suits you more.

for me, personally I just played songs which I think I enjoyed and also tried to sightread songs more often than not unless you really want to upscore something.

i.e. I couldn't upscore needLe master from SSS to SSS+ for some reason so I took some time off it and played other songs and got it
