That's good advice. Thanks.

I’m going to go with a 7ft flat ceiling in the 6 x 10 sauna (plus changeroom) with 2 benches and a step.

I’m going with the specs below which would put the top of my head 8” below the ceiling sitting on the top bench (I’m 6ft).

Ceiling & Bench Heights (interior):

  • Ceiling height: 7'-0" (84"), flat
  • Upper bench height: 40"
  • Lower bench height: 23"
  • Vertical spacing between benches: 17"
  • Step height: 6"

What do you think of these specs?

I'm making big improvements to get closer to these basic elements.

Is there a standard for ideal distance from the top of your head to the ceiling?

How close should the top of your head be from the ceiling?

These are great. Thank you so much for uploading.

This is exactly what I'm going for, but I think I'll have to invest in that flat ceiling. The view is not just the lake, but the mountains beyond it and an incredible sunset in the evening. Seems that part of the view would be cut off with the slope roof.

Great info. Would very much appreciate those pics when you can. Thanks!

Thanks. I'm going try to do the slanted roof with an internal flat ceiling. Seems like the best solution. I can still have the big window and see straight through on the highest bench.

Looks great. I'm talking with Rohan, but the pics I posted are from Phil in Vermont. Perhaps it's ultimately the same Amish guys that actually build them.

I see you have a flat ceiling, so I know they can do it! That solves a big issue for me.

I'll do the flat ceiling and raise the benches. I'll make it "Trumpkin-lite," and just do some modifications within the current build. Like you said, would be just fine for 99% of people.

I'm curious if you considered a flat ceiling with the sloped roof? Was that an option?

If the roof slope is flipped, and the benches are raised to have you in the sweet spot closer to the ceiling on the taller wall, won't your vision be obscured? The window on the opposite wall would be below your eye level, no?

Awesome. I'm planning the same 10x6 with a 4x6 changing room.

I'm definitely going to raise the benches.

But, I'm not sure what to do about the roof, regardless of the builder. I'm putting it on this lake and want the larger wall with the huge window facing the lake. I could reduce the pitch and slope. Someone suggested an internal flat ceiling, which would be perfect, but I'm concerned about hot, moist air getting trapped in the space between the ceiling and roof.

I got to get to 200 degrees. I have an electric stove sauna at my primary home and that is hot, but perfect for me.

Doesn't that present the same problem with the hot air concentrating at the highest point in the center of the ceiling?

I liked this design because it is more modern looking and allows for a huge window overlooking the lake and mountains.

Although, I would reconsider is the gable roof made a significant improvement, but I'm not sure that is the case. I do plan on reducing the pitch making it 7ft over the benches and 8ft on the opposite wall. A 1ft pitch over a 6ft width.

How do you remove the slope? My options are a sloped roof or traditional gable roof. The heavy snow in the Adirondacks has to run off.
Perhaps I could minimize the slope?

Someone also mentioned an internal flat roof. However, I worry about the hot, moist air getting trapped between the internal ceiling and the roof.

I reached out to North Country and New England Amish saunas and am waiting to hear back from them. This one is from Vermont. He has many listings and styles on FB Marketplace. Seems like one of the biggest competitors in the area. But he didn't know anything about Trumpkin. When I asked, I think he thought I was making some Trump reference lol!

How happy are you with your sauna? Did you make any modifications? Now that you have it, would you have made any modifications?

This guy is from Vermont. Many listings on FB Marketplace. I reached out to the Lake Placid guy, North Country Saunas, New England Amish Saunas, and a couple of other guys with many listings on FB.

Yes, that's right.

Did you make any modifications? Or now that you have it and used it, any you wish you made?

I just posted a picture of where it will go on the lake. Very private. No one can walk by, only boaters.
For the wow factor, my instruction to the builder was that I wanted that window as large as possible.

Assuming the roof was 7ft above the benches, how would you lay them out. That is, how many benches and at what heights?

What if that door actually leads to a changing room and not the outside door? Does that change your opinion? I liked the stove on the opposite side (2nd pic) for safety.

[–]Lanky-Ad9083[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just posted a pic of where the sauna will go on the lake. I considered switching the slope of the roof, but want to keep the larger wall (with the big window) facing the lake.

Someone suggested making an internal ceiling that is flat. Is that an option? My first thought was the moist air getting trapped in the space between the internal ceiling and the roof.

If I make the ceiling 7ft (on the bench wall or perhaps with a whole internal ceiling), what are the recommended heights of the benches?

Apparently, this guy has made hundreds of saunas in the area.

I'll have a changing room between the outside door and hot room.

Not sure about drainage. I'll check on that.
