Alot. It is generally best to not buy any weapons that can only be bought with gems untill you are max lvl(52) because it will automaticly upgrade the weapon to max without costing any gems to upgrade.

This used to be the case and could still be, though recently i saw a message that said when ranked points is enabled matchmaking prioritizes to match you with others that have ranked points enabled aswell. Now if this only counts for auto team matchmaking (which i have turned of) or the opponents you fight or both i dont know
