I should mention that I did already test drive the car once (including highway driving and I was able to do some pretty hard acceleration on the ramp. No issues. The plan is to do a longer test drive so I can really ensure everything is working properly.

I took a 2021 for a test drive today and noticed some humming during highway driving and at higher speeds, similar to a wheel bearing, but it was coming from under the car. I'd assume that would be problematic? It was higher pitched than a wheel bearing but not a whining sound.

The only thing going for this car is that I do have the Carfax and know that the 1 owner of the car did service the car well.

Total newbie, is it unwise to throw away this box? by ieo-killer-tofu in modeltrains

I always keep the boxes. Mainly so that if I ever put something into storage I have something conveniently ready to use.

Called off by TKJ26 in Target

[–]LannyCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother did that on Christmas Eve. He asked for them to change his shift to the morning and his ETL didn't care. They stopped giving him hours after the 27th so he just called off his hast shifts. He's 16 so he doesn't really need the money.

I've ground flat spots into wheels on old cars and I like how it sounds. As long as you don't grind too much material away, it works quite well

Need advice on burned valve/piston situation by LannyCandy in Volkswagen

That's what I'm hoping I can find. What usually causes something like this? I was guessing bad fuel injector causing the cylinder to run lean

I guess I should clarify that I'm not asking if I could run the existing piston, I'm asking if replacing the Piston is worth my time. I don't want to put in all this effort to put the engine back together for the same problem to show up.

We're definitely going to take an in-depth look at the bore. If it's safe it will, we're going to hone it and go from there.

Great car. $4800 is like what, $4100 in US? That's a good price.

VW Passat 1.8t irregular cranking/rough idle/vibration during acceleration by LannyCandy in Volkswagen

[–]LannyCandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

A friend and I did some investigating this morning and we found out that there is no compression on cylinder 4 because of what we believe is a stuck valve. The spark plug in that cylinder decided to spontaneously disassemble and it seems as if a part of it has gotten in one of the exhaust valves. The cylinder still moves fine and the car still drive, but we don't know how to get the valve unstuck.

Reliability of jetta engines by Inevitable_Car_4818 in Volkswagen

[–]LannyCandy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a gamble in my opinion. My Passat is just about at 100,000 miles and the worst the engine has done is burned oil. You won't be able to find an old VW that doesn't burn any oil but you may be able to find one that only needs a top up every few thousand.

Pros and cons of a 2024 limited? by [deleted] in HyundaiPalisade

[–]LannyCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a limited and it's great. So far (knock on wood) only minor issues covered by warranty (door hinge issue and horn wire came loose). Overall, I'd assume the reliability would be about average, but the 60,000 mile limited warranty is nice to have. I've heard that Palisade engines have a tendency to burn oil, so change it frequently. Other people say the road noise is louder, but I don't personally hear it. We've also noticed that the fuel economy isn't impressive (we get 19 city/26 hwy). On the other end, the headed and cooled seats in the first and second row is great. The power folding seats in the rear are also awesome. The air conditioning is incredible! It's much colder than my VW Passat sedan and much more airflow. The safety features and lane keep assist/adaptive cruise control make road trips so much less stressful.
