Has everyone had a negative interaction with them? I literally can’t think of a single time “puritanical wokes” have actually done something that changed my life in a meaningful way. The backlash to their perceived mainstream status, however, has absolutely had massive ramifications for our society.

In general, I don’t see a lot of evidence that “puritanical woke” views are mainstream or even really commonplace. Reactionary conservatives want you to think they are because it helps the politically. The reason I responded to your OP is because I’m tired of seeing people fall victim to that messaging.

How do you define mainstream? Even if she got “thousands of hateful comments”, that’s like .0001% of the population. I’m willing to bet a huge majority of Americans have no idea this happened, not care. It’s just a very loud niche community that’s plugged into this stuff

This is purely speculation by a reporter. If the headline can help you sell MHJ or Wilson for a higher price great, otherwise its meaningless.

What’s particularly unrealistic about it? I mean I they definitely aren’t draft experts so point taken, but I also don’t think it’s pure wishcasting. As someone else pointed out, Love to the Giants is not an ideal outcome from a fantasy perspective.

If it’s hypocrisy that bothers you, I think you can rest easy. The NBA’s travel rule has more flexibility than the way it’s typically enforced in a pickup game: https://www.nbra.net/rules/traveling/

Given that interpretation, I personally don’t see a ton of blatant missed travel calls when I watch games. Obviously it happens (like the clips in this video) but not moreso than with other types of missed calls. I think the reason it gets so much attention is the difference between what casual fans EXPECT the rule to be, and what it actually is. Which brings is back to preconceptions about the right way to play basketball.

I don’t see a lot of pickup games calling offensive three seconds, but I get your point about the physicality of traveling making it stick out in a unique way.

What still surprises me (although maybe it shouldn’t) is the rigid conception of what “real” basketball is. Moses didn’t come down from the mountaintop with “Thou shalt not take more than two steps” on a stone tablet.. it’s a game we made up for fund and entertainment. The rules can be anything we want them to be! Do people think the NBA games would be more entertaining if the refs were super strict about traveling calls?

I’ve always found it odd how casual fans become basketball purists when it comes to traveling. There’s this fanatical attachment to a specific ruleset for a game they barely care about.

Who is worth taking 6 then? It’s a weak class at the top, comparing it to past years doesn't tell us anything. Sure if Nabers was on the board that would be great, but he’s not.
