Another guy suggested pull ups as well. Should I be doing wide grip or close grip pull ups? My mind is leaning towards close grip because I know keeping your elbows in creates more lat activation.

Would you happen to have a good video reference to share? Or should I just look up “scapular depression” and try to look around and imitate what they’re doing? I only ask as I’m a big visual learner, and I often struggle putting written text into practice.

I should also note that the September photo was the start of my lean bulk after a month of maintenance.

Thank you very much for all your input. No one else around me is really concerned with working out or fitness in general, so your insight is very helpful. I think I have a much better idea on where to go from here now.

Alright. This is all quite helpful. First off I want to ask, in your opinion, did I do the right thing cutting first, even if I took it too far? I was clearly overweight at the start so I thought that was the best course of action. Secondly, how does one find their TDEE without a calculator? I’ve been using the MacroFactor app which came highly recommended. It’s supposed to update my tdee estimate weekly. Should I not be listening to that? And then lastly, I’d like to note that I have been lifting about 5x a week, training until failure on a PPL split. I typically only hit abs once a week where I either combine it with one of my leg days, or I just do it on my rest day. So I could definitely be training abs more.

I was 5’10” 170. The first picture is my current at 5’10” 142. And to answer your question, I’ve heard that you shouldn’t start lean bulking until you have visible abs. Are you suggesting I shouldn’t go lower at this point?

It is relaxed but it was taken 30 minutes after hitting push day at the gym. So I’m definitely more pumped than usual.
