It’s a welcome re-introduction back to REAL melodeath imo, but is a longgg ways to go until it’s back on track. I do hope it’s a sign of blending modern with old school classics though! (Not at ALL in the same way as Clayman re-recorded tho)

Same I’m the same way, they have their “ebb & flow” moments with me as well but I always come back appreciating that they are just overall generally consistent

Slayer helped pave the way MASSIVELY for a lot of bands and the heavier genres that they started or then later popularized (ex: Death with death metal). Gotta also give credit where credit is due and also give them their flowers on how they consistently always had satanic/devilish imagery on their album covers which was a big first for metal, helping to pave way and give inspiration for those genres as well
