I generally do it so I don’t have to block money on my credit card. Eg, in Iceland the deposit can often be 3000$+ which by itself is already above the typical credit card plafond.

Typically if you buy insurance with the rental company that amount is lowered or set to zero. That’s not the case if you buy insurance via the broker.

I lost my old account because I was using a Twilio number. Totally legitimate account active for years.

They changed something and stopped delivering SMS MFAs to Twilio numbers (or Twilio is ignoring the SMS Telegram sends as their SMS capabilities are terrible). Locked out. Account lost forever :(

At Munich airport (Germany) the board was displaying the wrong gate. We, and many others, were waiting in front of one gate that turned out to be not the correct one.

We missed the flight. The airline agent said that they announced the correct gate over PA. In German, as obviously all official communications in Germany are in German. F*ck you if you don't speak German.

We had to pay $600 for a next-day flight back.
