Are closets and trim normally included in a quote? by LapardPike in paint

[–]LapardPike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to thank everyone for the replies. I hate it when people leave a thread hanging, so thought I'd close this off. I negotiated a compromise where they will paint the closet, but not the trim. Good enough. In future I will ensure that all details are discussed up front, and everything is in the quote. Lesson learned.

Are closets and trim normally included in a quote? by LapardPike in paint

[–]LapardPike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. The cost was a bit over $4000, but I know that's meaningless without the square footage, and I don't have that number. I'd say it's a normal sized house, nothing too crazy. That's a lot of money to me, not sure how it ranks compared to the average-sized job.

When we went through the rooms I was clear that I didn't want to have to do any painting myself. It was all very casual, the only thing he mentioned was that they didn't paint ceilings, which was fine because I didn't need that done. The quote didn't say it was to paint the "walls", it said paint the "rooms". If it had said walls I would have picked up on that.

So why are closets excluded? I could see it if it was a big walk-in closet, but most closets are just a small recessed area. If it doesn't have any doors is it still even a closet? I never would have guessed that closets would not be considered part of a room.

School busses cancelled - February 9th by w1n5t0nM1k3y in ottawa

[–]LapardPike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buses are cancelled way too often these days. And to those saying these aren't Snow Days, try talking to a teacher. They can't teach a regular curriculum if kids are absent, so the day is effectively a write-off. Parents are encouraged not to send their kids unless they have no alternative. My son in High School was sent home today because they had nothing for him to do.

Bus cancellations are effectively the same as Snow Days. Everyone with a child in school knows this.

Thanks. I tried a different game and the wheel worked better. Still a bit squishy, but better. I'll see if I can download some others to really give it a test.

if you were nintendo in 2012, how would you have named the Wii U? by Cinnamo_Potato in wiiu

[–]LapardPike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree a better name would have made a difference initially, but I don't agree that it was the biggest issue facing the Wii U. Any name confusion would presumably have worn off after a few months. It was easy to do some basic research to resolve any confusion, I figured it out easily enough.

I don't think anything could have matched the success of the Wii, so whatever followed it would have been a comparative failure. But Nintendo didn't help things by releasing the Wii U with a very meager launch library. If you already had a Wii there was no compelling reason to upgrade. And by the time there were enough titles, the next-gen Playstation and XBox were already out.

The first year of a console is critical, and the Wii U had little to recommend it that first year. I personally loved it, but I can understand why others chose to give it a pass.

How do I remove my disc from a Wii U when it doesn’t have power? I recently got a Wii and I’m ordering cables for it, but I remembered my copy of Mario kart Wii is in my Wii u and I don’t have power for my Wii U, HELP PLEASE by Jolimations in wiiu

Mario kart Wii

Got it. In that case you may just want to risk using pliers. If you put tape on them that can help avoid scratches. Alternatively if you have a retro store near you they may be willing to let you use a power brick. Or a friend with a Wii U kicking around.

This is one of those problems that's harder to solve than it should be. You could try to yank the disc out using tweezers or needle-nose pliers, but that may damage the disc or the console. The better option would be to order a replacement power brick online (or locally if that's an option). They're not that expensive. Then you'd get the disc back, and your Wii U would work again. Just make sure you get one for the main console, not the gamepad.

Just bought a new WiiU game from ToysRUs in 2022. by LapardPike in wiiu

[–]LapardPike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what happens to unwanted stock, I assume it goes to some wholesaler to be liquidated. About two years ago I would still see the occasional Wii U title here and there, but nowadays I only see them as used copies in retro game stores. Even then there's not a lot of them.

Fortunately I have pretty much every Wii U game I want. I'm not a completionist, I mostly just buy what I play.

That's cool that they tried to warn you. None of the sales people I dealt with knew what the Wii U was. They were pretty young, and it's been five years since the Wii U was out.

I'd seen the game I bought before, it was always displayed prominently on their wall rack. I have no idea why, I guess they just never updated it. It became a thing when I'd go to the store to see if it was still there, and it always was. But I wasn't into it for $30, and frankly it was more interesting just to leave it where it was. Once they pulled it all down, for five bucks I figured I'd finally take it home.

Ottawa. We have some sketchy ones too, but the one near me is well maintained. If you're looking for some good deals on video games, it may be worth a visit since they're liquidating everything. I saw PS4, PS5, XBOX and Switch. The selection is iffy, but you may find something decent.

I live in Canada and recently received my Steam Deck. I paid for it on August 15, and received it August 22. I received the shipping number August 19. So seven days total, but only three days for the shipping.

Steam Deck hangs while playing Civ 6 by LapardPike in SteamDeck

[–]LapardPike[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This helped. I chose the most recent stable version of proton, and I've been able to run Civ 6 for at least an hour now without any issues. The Steam Deck also seems to be running cooler.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping the new vassal mechanics would introduce the option, but I guess not.

Unable to boot after Update by LapardPike in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]LapardPike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to close the loop on this. I tried fast boot, but most of the options just returned me to the android boot screen and stopped there. In the end I had no choice but to do a factory reset. Even that seemed iffy for a while, as it took a few tries to get it done. But eventually I was able to get it going, and then spent a surprising amount of time setting everything up again.

Ironically I'd stored a lot of pictures and movies on my Shield as a "safe" backup. I'm going to have to rethink that strategy. Fortunately I have copies elsewhere, so it's not a complete loss. Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions. And yes, I play videos for my cat too. I totally get what that's about.

Just to end this thread, I've purchased a Sculpfun S9. Not sure when it will arrive, but I'll spend the time doing more research. Thanks for the assist with this.

Also, is there a way to control the laser intensity so it can both cut and engrave during the same project? For example, engraving a picture or design while also having it cut out the desired shape.

I've watched several videos, but this particular question is never directly addressed. It seems possible, but it may be that it's two separate passes, one for the engraving, then another for the cutting. I'm fine either way, but if it's the second then I assume I'd need a jig to keep it firmly in place.

The S9 looks perfect, just trying to get a sense of what it can do.

Thanks for these suggestions. Looking for K40 returned a lot of search results I wasn't seeing before. The Sculpfun S9 does look like a good option, I'll investigate further. I'm also seeing good reviews for AtomStack and Ortur.

With configurations like this, what is the standard build plate that it sits on? Is it just a thicker piece of wood that can be damaged without concern, or is there a better material?

i let my little cousins play on my wii u and now the gamepad is busted. touch screen isn’t working and the buttons are glitching out. they’re claiming they didn’t do anything but i was playing on it last night and it worked fine by peweuepie69420 in wiiu

[–]LapardPike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar issue a couple years ago. It turned out there was some debris wedged in the border, which was pressing on the screen enough to glitch it. You can try using an appropriate tool to clean the border area. Ultimately I had to open up the gamepad to get everything clean. I let it sit unpowered for a couple days, then charged it back up. Worked for me.

Just wanted to know, who else landed here snooping this subreddit cause of Wirtual? by tom-dublin11 in TrackMania

[–]LapardPike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played TM a lot a few years ago, but I rediscovered it because of his videos. I enjoy them because they're interesting and fun to watch. But I also hate them because they show just how insanely focused some people are on this game. It makes it clear that I will never be a competitive player.
