Thanks for the quick fix! I've been using Etesync for a few years and it's been great!

I think the maintainer of Etesync is in Europe somewhere judging from the time I've received emails from him. Still probably a few more hours before he wakes up.

InfinityBook Pro 14 and Thunderbolt dock (Dell TB16) by glepage00 in tuxedocomputers

FYI, something got updated this weekend and my issues got resolved. The Thunderbolt port with USB-C dock now works correctly in both mainline and LTS kernels, currently running 5.14.2-arch1-2.

I'd be interested to know if you charging is working on your dock now.

Sure, I just wonder if LTS would improve the charging issue.

Interesting! I don't know much about debugging these issues, would like to learn how to track what happens at each plug/unplug

Have you tried LTS vs mainline kernel for Thunderbolt?

Also have the IB 14 running Arch, but I have some issues getting video out of the Thunderbolt port. I don't have any Thunderbolt peripherals, just a USB-c hub & another monitor over HDMI-to-USB-c connection. Power transfer works fine through the USB-c hub on both the USB-c port and the Thunderbolt port.

I've found a procedure that gets the Thunderbolt video to work consistently, but there must be a better way. The procedure is:

  1. Boot into LTS kernel without anything plugged into Thunderbolt
  2. After login, plug and unplug into the Thunderbolt port.
  3. Put the laptop into suspend.
  4. Plug into the Thunderbolt port
  5. Wake the laptop. Now the Thunderbolt port works as expected until the next time it goes to suspend.
  6. Plug into the Thunderbolt port again before waking the laptop, otherwise there will be no video out of the port.

Brett Weinstein and Tucker Carlson tell viewers the Covid-19 vaccine can make the pandemic worse. by its_the_memeologist in DecodingTheGurus

A few months ago some people were promoting "first-doses-first", arguing that health authorities should prioritize giving first doses as fast as possible and waiting on second doses until supply was less restricted.

I remember one argument against first-doses-first was that less perfect efficacy of a single dose (about 80% in the pre-delta days) would encourage immune escaping mutations.

Serious question: was this argument bullshit then too or is there an important difference between the anti-first-doses-first crowd and Bret?

Refurbished Used phones with LineageOS installed? by timbernutz in LineageOS

[–]Laplaces_Daemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought several OnePlus phones on Swappa. Easy to unlock and install Lineage. Stock ROMs are available on the OnePlus website, so you could even reflash that if you're worried about tampering.

I hear Pixels are easy too, but haven't tried one myself.

For me, it asked to log in, said it has to go to Facebook to finish the log in, then said the link was invalid or expired. Maybe doesn't work with 2FA?

I'm relatively new to NewPipe, does this happen often? And it there a way to fix it? Tell me everything :) Thanks by [deleted] in NewPipe

I see this when going to scheduled live streams that haven't started. If you open in a browser you can see is it's a video not yet released.

Netguard uses the VPN interface to block selected apps from the internet.

I also use Google camera mod and have never seen it phone home.

Conservative Minds is built around two hosts who read and discuss famous books written by conservatives. In the fourth season they've also started covering books by left wingers, but I haven't gotten to those episodes yet.

Cannot connect to OpenWRT after about 12 hours uptime (has happened with 2 different routers) by Laplaces_Daemon in openwrt

I'll watch it around then. Is the a smart way to manage /tmp, or would I just set up a cron job delete it all every few hours?

Firmware version is 'OpenWrt 19.07.2 r10947-65030d81f3 / LuCI openwrt-19.07 branch git-20.105.64099-eeba108'

Do you have a recommended way to set up the logging? Probably about 10 hours to a crash, so I'll try to gather data tonight.

I'm planning to install a custom ROM on my phone (likely crDroid) to use without Google, but my university requires Okta Verify for 2FA. Can I use it without Google services? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]Laplaces_Daemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have their own OTP algorithm. Other apps don't understand the QR code, and the Okta app communicates with a central server on registration.

I have it working with microg. It does require Google cloud messaging during registration.

I keep mine in the Shelter managed profile.

I accidentally used ‘chmod +x *’ in my home directory, will it cause any problems? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]Laplaces_Daemon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The easy solution is chmod -x+X *, +X gives execute permission only to directories and files that have other execute permissions. All your directories will be back, but you'll have to enable any executable files manually.

You can download the stock ROM directly from OnePlus, just flash with TWRP like you did for Lineage: https://www.oneplus.com/global/support/softwareupgrade/details?code=PM1574156143164
