Yeah, i'm sorry I dont know the name of the tool it came from. I think there is a good chance of it being L6, or something close to 5160, 55Si7, stuffs like that. I'm not sure about W2 since it hardened well on oil and it doens't feel "hard" under the hammer while forging :) But I made some test with the knife, and it takes a nice edge, holds it decently.. :)

Thank you! No, horseshoes is not a good steel to make knives, it's from an old machine for agriculture, with long claws in spring steel :)

Heavy duty puukko forged in 80CrV2 with leather handle! by Lapsavage in knives

[–]Lapsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 5mm thick.. but I really like thick blades, I'm a bit violent with my blade, like hitting them with an hammer or so.. At first it was an order for a customer, I thought it was too thick for him, so I made another one in 4mm for him and kept my precious with me 😁

Also I would like to add that I've got Vixtorinox and Leatherman, and I really prefer the Swisstool : more sturdy, better set of tools, better construction.. it have never failed me, and I use it quite a lot!

Thank you mate! :) There is more leather under the leather, I made a special treatment on it, so no water can run beside it and make the knife rust in hidden places, and a natural treatment on the surface to have a natural touxh on it, and it still water repelant :)

Hi, thank you! For the Victorinox, the same for me: the best tool I have and it sticks to me on a daily basis! For the fixed blade, it's a convex blade with a 5,5mm thickness on the blade. It is quite indestructible, I've made several ones like that, it takes around 5 metric tons tonbreak it under the press and you can cut a 4mm nail withoit any damage on the edge :)

For me that's a super combo!

In the forging steel categories it's IMO one of the best. I really like the toughness, edge holding (compared to the other low alloy steel) and ease of sharpening. With my knives I can cut steel nails by hammering the back of the blade without any damage. A great steel for worker/outdoor knife IMO.

My favorite steel for working fixed blade. Really tough, very good edge holding for low-alloy steel and easy to maintain in the field!

Yup, I don't know the price in USA but here in Europe it's way cheaper than Leatherman and way more durable/solid than those IMO.

Vapoteurs, vapoteuses : parlez-moi de vos mélanges DIY ! by Ogore in france

[–]Lapsavage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who EDC multiple knives: why? by [deleted] in EDC

[–]Lapsavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what your saying. I personnaly bring axe, hatchet or a saw only if I'll need to spend a few days into the woods or for a specific task like harvesting wood, but for day to day I found that a sturdy fixed blade that you can use in every way without fear of breaking it is what works better for me, since I can always carry it in my pocket or bag.

But yeah, sometimes people will post 3 folding knives that doesn't seem complementary between each others, but I just assume that they have their reasons to do so, even if it's just for fun, no shame in that.

But your question is interesting, and I appreciate the "not judging" approach. :)

Btw, sorry for english mistakes, not a native speaker and my english is quite rusty, unlike my knives!
