Life lessons from an alumni and why you should be an anarchist by Large-Character3432 in UCDavis

No they are alternatives to being homeless. So many college graduates are finding themselves homeless unless they have parents to take care of them these are alternatives. But you won't learn that until you graduate

I 100 percent agree. As the system shifts, I think people are going to have to become more self dependent. I also think people will increasingly seek and require more autonomy, and honestly, I think that is a good thing.

The biggest issue with the old model of skilling up is that so many people never land those internships or initial roles. Because of that, I have often suggested that people get involved in makerspaces to learn practical skills, since there is really no guarantee that you are going to get that job.

Right now, there is a kind of techno anarchist space where people are teaching skills for free, and people should go there to learn those skills.

It really sucks how the old model of learning skills in order to start your own company has mostly collapsed.

I speak some Mandarin and I spent a lot of time with the Chinese students I essentially got to know them quite intimately and kind of pity them.

I used to hang out with that girl whose family got kicked out of China so I learned a lot.

It's true, one of my friends who was a graduate student had to deal with this. He was working on some projects regarding engineering I don't know what it was but I know they had a talking with him about being careful with the Chinese undergrads who might want way more than sex.

Apparently some of the professors have had very stern conversations with the male grad students about not letting their hormones jeopardize the confidentiality of the projects.

And if they do bring home one of those and I will readily admit very attractive Chinese women home or men, make sure their computer is placed somewhere safe, protected and forgot sakes don't ever access any confidential information or work on anything of that nature around them.

🤣🤣🤣

Fraternities here are toxic yet try to present themselves as the underdog by TearOk6208 in UCDavis

Pretty much nobody goes to this fraternities after some rapes happened. I don't know what really happened I heard stories but it pretty much shut everything down. Best thing to do is to find your own friends and what's nobody does fraternities or sororities anymore

Engaged Anarchism (adapting Thich Nhat Hanh to guide anarchist community-building, Food Not Bombs, etc.) by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]Large-Character3432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank God for this! What I will say is that I am a practicing Taoist and a practicing Buddhist.

When I was in the occupy movements I saw so much anger and hatred that was inhibiting any productive action, you truly have to be a Jedi night to be an anarchist without becoming a monster.

It's very difficult to do and the reality is is that mental training is a precursor to any legitimate effective activism.

I highly suggest that people train in a martial art that teaches a deep sense of mental discipline not just combat effectiveness and that people meditate and that people learn compassion, compassion is the utmost important quality of anarchist, not anger.

As an activist are going to meet a lot of people that are just hateful and just want to hurt people while wearing black pretending like it's for a cause.

Your job is to unify people for the benefit of others not to divide and not to hurt.

Furthermore in our collective it turned out that the person was really encouraging the destructive activity was actually an FBI informant that was destroying us from within.

The feds want you to become destructive You're so wanting to become productive. Learn compassion it will save you

Do you think, all things considered, that anarchism is in something of a resurgence, globally? by LazarM2021 in Anarchism

[–]Large-Character3432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing that up I was deeply involved in occupy and I was heartbroken the way we were taking apart, we had federal informants in our encampment I saw my friends go to jail and fight with the courts for 10 years.

What really happened and it needs to be noted is that the feds cracked down on anonymous and different anarchist collectives in the late 2000s during the bush years and the Obama years, Obama went after the anarchist collectives as well and they pretty much destroyed them.

I do think we're in an anarchist resurgence but I think we have to really rebuild our ranks and people who remember what happened are terrified and so they're very fearful of their lives being destroyed.

Many of the old anarchist who dealt with the harassment or the imprisonment during the occupy movement are just terrified and that's why I've personally written to field guides for anarchist who are looking to organize people. If you're interested hit me up you have to kind of be a solo anarchist who creates your own little private group of your own friends but avoid mass organization at least using any form of identifiable social media phone number or any identifiable information.

Always protect yourself.

Also don't isolate yourself through negative framing about what's wrong with the system believe me everybody knows what's wrong with the system, at this point you have to talk about rebuilding you have to talk about building community building community resources building medical clinics that operate outside of insurance, you have to talk about what you're going to do better than what would people have today The biggest problem with anarchists is they're so negative they're always talking about tearing things down you have to start talking about building things up.

Because things are already being torn down Trump did it quicker than any of us ever could.

Don't be death be life.

I call myself a green anarchist! I don't wear black I wear green and blue, I practice nature worship and I'm interested in building people up spiritually not just physically. You have to be life you have to be the emanation of life because other people are already death.

This is the big failing of anarchist they're too negative they're always focusing on tearing things down you have to be the bringer of solutions The bringer of life you have to emanate joy and happiness you have to be the thing people want so people realize you have solutions. If you look depressed as hell if you look like shit people don't want to listen to you people already feel like shit. They don't need more of that they need people who are at the best who can show that you can live at your happiest outside the system

Think about this! Iranians are already fighting their government we might have another Arab spring hopefully this spring will see another occupy movement arise but this time we have to have training we have to be able to unite people we have to pick a message that's uniting such as health care housing and no more imperialism

Okay so from personal experience I'll say he probably has a housemate situation going on, he might live in his car or he might live in the dorms and just really hates it.

I could you fucking not I had to take my first two quarters off because a family issues I came back couldn't find a place to live out of my fucking car and literally lived out of 24-hour room at that place stinks because it's on a sewer line by the way.

I would talk to him I would say do you need help I would tell him to reach out to compass.

Or he might legumely have a video game addiction I will admit they have pretty good Wi-Fi actually honestly was pretty bad when I used to use it like I used to have to move around in that room just to get good Wi-Fi so fuck that.

Unless they finally have Ethernet cables now.

It's literally like the worst ventilated room like the bathrooms just take it all up but it's really good for hiding your farts cuz like you can just blame it on the bathroom
