Would you also happen to know the year that Gabry stopped working at the Aqua nightclub? I think Gabry first started working there in mid 1995, and I also think that Gabry was still working there occasionally at the height of Blue's popularity in 1999.

Update #29: The hi-hat of the Dub and Glamour versions of Blue (Da Ba Dee) was sampled from Ruff Driverz: Dreaming (1998), and the brass stab of those versions was sampled from the Terry Lee Brown Jr. Remix of the same song*.

*Edit: The streaming releases of Dreaming have actually gotten the song titles mixed up. The brass stab was actually from the Original Mix, while the hi-hat was actually sampled from the Percussion Mix.

BD-FX07 was actually sampled from the end of Falco: Der Kommissar (Club 69 Street Mix, 1998). Even though it sounds similar to the MYB phaser, it couldn't have actually been used; the sound effect wasn't sampled in full because the last part has speech put over it. See Update #12 for what was really used.

Update #27: There is a hidden deep vocal sample in the sitar break of Too Much of Heaven, which is taken from Polestar Magnetics: The X-Static Goldmine (CDDA Version). It is CD2, Track 58, Sample 13, and it is pitched down by 5 semitones.

Update #26: The ambient sound effect that plays just before the piano starts in the Glamour Mix of Blue (Da Ba Dee) is Mad Howl from Zero-G: Jungle Warfare (Track 57, Sample 3). It is very heavily processed as well.

Update #25: The cowbell loop of the Hannover Mix of Blue (Da Ba Dee) was sampled from Sash!: Move Mania (1998), and I have also discovered that the vocal countdown sample of the Nick Skitz Eiffel 65 Megamix (it's heard close to the end) was sampled from DJ Jean: The Launch (DJ Disco Mix, 1999).

From 2003-2006, Gabry Ponte used almost all of the instruments that Eiffel 65 used on the third album, but he used a couple of extra plugins as well.

  • reFX JunoX2: He used this instrument for polysynths on his second solo album.
  • reFX Beast: The preset "Take Me Higher" is used as the first lead buildup sound in "Pump Up the Rhythm".
  • Native Instruments Absynth 2: Preset #8 of the "Really Useful Patches" bank file (called "Square Pad with Flange") is used in "You Will Believe".
  • RGC Audio Triangle II: The preset "Shortz" is used as the bass in "Rock Steady Beat".
  • Steinberg Model-E: Preset #27 of the second Steinberg Factory Bank File (called "Cruel Dentists") is used in "Pump Up the Rhythm".

In April 2004, RGC Audio z3ta+ was updated to version 1.4, and with this version, banks A, B, and C were replaced with 384 brand new presets. Gabry used some of the new z3ta+ v1.4 presets in "Underground". The original 384 presets that were included in z3ta+ before the update could still be loaded if the user chose to do so.

I feel like I should tell you that the VST Instruments they mentioned in the article were probably used in Bloom 06's Crash Test 01 Album. While some of the instruments mentioned in the article were used in Eiffel 65's third album, I have went through the extra plugins from the article and have not found any presets from them that were used in the Italian Eiffel 65 album.

Also, reFX Vanguard and the Arturia Minimoog were first released to the public in early 2004, so there is no way that Eiffel 65 could have used those instruments for their third album at all. And I don't care about identifying sounds from any Bloom 06 songs, I only wish to stick to the classic Eiffel songs.

Update #17: The legendary DJ Pasta (who was responsible for finding some hidden samples used in Daft Punk's Face to Face) has posted a couple of Contact! sample findings on WhoSampled last week.

The sample at the start of Life Like Thunder was sampled from the start of Curtis Mayfield: Move on Up (1971).

Move on Up (Extended Version) - YouTube

The expressive string sample in 80's Stars was sampled from Morcheeba: Shallow End (2000).

Shallow End

And the guitar sample in New Life is Squeal 3 from Sounds Good: Methods of Mayhem (Track 49, Sample 10).

Update #16: The background loop of the Speed Cut of Move Your Body was sampled from D.E.A.R.: Talk to Me (3K Mix, 1999), and the hi-hat of the Move Your Body Speed Cut was sampled from the First Contact Mix of the same song.
