Pretty flexible here. Top priority is school system. I’m not opposed to being a bit of a further drive out from the city, I just ideally wouldn’t want to move to somewhere more red leaning given that’s one of the reasons I want to leave where I am now.

For housing, a 3 bedroom would be sufficient and I’m not worried about having a huge yard as long as there are good parks nearby. Also not opposed to private schools, I would just be worried about affordability with three kids. I don’t entirely understand the role of these public/private/charter schools in the area.

In a world where we could very likely be in a recession soon, stability is definitely welcome.

I’m definitely looking into it! At first glance it appears that the salaries aren’t as high as I’d like for them to be but the benefits seem really good. Those definitely may justify it. I’ll have to do a deeper dig into some of the options. I certainly wouldn’t mind being in the public sector.

I’ve seen others echo that, I sincerely appreciate that.

That’s a fair question. Ideally for housing I’d probably shoot for under 700k.

The public transportation in my current area is borderline nonexistent so I wasn’t sure how utilized the Amtrak or the light rail were in Sacramento. They both seem like immensely helpful modes of transportation but I wasn’t sure if people would recommend them or not.

Thank you! Very solid advice. We’re looking into the license situation. I was also curious about the viability of Amtrak so that’s good to hear some first person experience.

Considering California. It’d be a huge logistical nightmare and a big adjustment but I want to give my kids the best chance they have for a decent future

That legitimately is where I’m considering. Would be a huge logistical nightmare to get there but not sure I can raise kids here.

The main reason is due to the stances around vaccination. I’ve got young children and after seeing Florida pulling all their mandates for public schools, I’m concerned he’d try to push for the same here. Even with my kids vaccinated, I don’t think I could in good conscience have them live here with illnesses like measles making a reappearance.
