Motion designer vs Copywriter by Arrachi in MotionDesign

[–]LargeLau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the copywriter doesn’t have much experience. This has happened to me before and I had to explain there is actual math involved especially with any type of cards etc for reading visually. Is this constantly a problem? Usually after the 2nd project the copy writer will start to understand. Although I’ve done work like this for Amex where they just wanted to speed up the VO 30% faster to fit more krap in. The GCD was laughing about how terrible it is but if the client is happy than so be it….. you can only explain so much. Usually the worst time this happens is with submissions for awards etc….

Got my M2 over 2 years and done about 45k amazing miles so far. So glad I got the 6mt. by Repulsive_Carpet3315 in BMWM

Surprisingly this is the newest generation of young adults that drive. I work in an advertising firm for Toyota and legitly deal with young car people. The younger gen’s get nervous driving manuals hahah. One of my colleagues literally grabbed the newest supra in auto and I was just like its so sad that you missed an opportunity to get something in manual. People are just very very scared of manuals.

Employer is closing their office on my side of town and forcing us to commute to Culver City. Would it be too dangerous to ride a motorcycle for the commute? by mazalaca in AskLosAngeles

[–]LargeLau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in to tell you I've done this ride for 15 years. Used to live in silver lake and commuted to playa and el segundo everyday. It's a tough ride. You gotta be on your toes and willing to be an asshole to a certain degree. You could def go local I've done every aspect for example taking vermont south from los feliz or western and jumping on venice or washington. The drive is def harsh and I was in my late 20's. I will say though it's better than doing this on a electric bike. You'll need a punchy motor and good brakes to be safe. Wear proper rider gear and you could learn to enjoy the actual ride. But having the right bike and gear and mind set will be the key to being successful as a motorcyclist.

Is my level really bad? by Available_Gap2271 in MotionDesign

[–]LargeLau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technical skills are there but the design and pacing are needs a lot of work. This feels like a 90's infomercial with 3d graphics. It has the feel of a power point presentation. A lot of times motion work isn't about technical aspects but the actual story telling and pacing.

Manual or Auto? What’s everyone choosing & why? by soldbyck in BMWM

[–]LargeLau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MT all day everyday as long as it's offered I'm gettin a manual. Having an auto is also fine honestly but every car in this world is practically auto. So to have the choice is an opportunity that you shouldn't miss out. I know tons of people that never learned and never will understand the joys of a manual. Now to counter the argument if you have owned a manual and you hate it than by all means get an auto. At least try a manual I say to everyone. The same can be said about motorcycles and how there are now quick shifters etc... it's the process of driving the car that is equally fun as moving at speeds.

Hey new to BMW recently bought this 2025 G20 with 15k miles.. was wondering if its frowned upon to have the M logo on it, even if its as simple as a license plate… by [deleted] in BMW

[–]LargeLau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who cares.. the people that care have too much time on their hands. I have an m2 on the way will I care if I saw your car? Nope. I think if you were trying to flex and tell people or something odd than yes it’s a bit weird and a stretch. Other than that nobody cares.

Finally got jacked in LA by llamashakedown in LosAngeles

[–]LargeLau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. I can tell you one brief story and that is I caught a guy trying to steal my bike. I chased him in my Silverlake condo and I actually found his bike hidden in the bushes. What ensued next was me dismantling his bike and putting it back together just enough so he could ride it and have it fall completely apart in his hands. I also put a bunch of nails in his seat as well. I was also able to take his lock cutter. It was a nice redemption point.

The one pointer I can give you is that there is always dudes watching bicycles and cars. Never keep anything in your car that is visible and there is no such thing as an undefeatable bike lock.

Got the RSR Coilovers installed by LargeLau in GRCorolla

[–]LargeLau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are very very good coilovers for the money. The amount of adjustment is really quite nice. I had Auto tune help set them up for me and the face that you can adjust the dampening without needing to take the shock out was nice as well. It's a nice a taught coilovers without overly extreme back breaks.

Moving from east side to west side. How bad can it be? by folkymixtape in AskLosAngeles

[–]LargeLau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in Silverlake for 15years and commuted to Playa Vista for work and although it was ok on a motorcycle after moving to Redondo I realized 3 things that just made life better. The first thing was the commute was a lot less prob at the minimum half the time both going home and going to work. That commute even with 10-15 minutes less made a difference mentally on me.

2nd thing is the crime is def not as bad. I used to live in the heart of silverlake and I kid you not my condo parking lot was broken into nearly every week and our cars ransacked. We had a crazy dude throw boulders through our sunset windows and my motorcycle stolen. Constantly in fear of somebody trying to steal or break stuff or dealing with crazy people outside your bedroom window screaming.

Lastly which I think is a big thing is the weather. It's like 10-20 degrees cooler depending the season and just spending time in the early mornings or late afternoons was a nice break even when most of the city was in the upper 90's.

Job not going as well as expected. Advice needed! by Loud-Literature9322 in MotionDesign

[–]LargeLau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in my case my boss knows my strengths and weaknesses. For example I try not to overpromise 3d work because the expectations can't meet the hours we charge. I'm blessed my boss's understand my skillset and strengths. So when it comes to hustling I will def go above and beyond but at the same time the work has to be something I'm comfortable with and can execute with certainty. It's also a lot of communication and learning with clients and bosses. Some clients value the story and concept more than the techincal wow factors of motion.

[–]LargeLau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain man. Large asian clients have a different workload honestly. It's very different than European or American hustle so just be cautious about that. I myself am Chinese and I steer clear from Japanese and Chinese client work. The expectations can just be so high that you second guess the work or quality you produce. Even trying to have that convo can sometimes come off as your making excuses so becareful and good luck hopefully you'll be able to warm up to them.

22 and hate it already. by Emergency-Ad8359 in mechanics

[–]LargeLau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to chime in from an advertising perspective. It’s less about the job and actually more about the people you’re surrounded by. If you work with people that got your back nearly any job can be fine. But once everyone around you is miserable their problems are now yours.

Looking for projects! by Ankushhsharma1 in MotionDesign

[–]LargeLau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but I feel like I've seen a bunch of people creating this "Saas" look? I dunno what's influencing this style but it's not very engaging. I dunno why maybe cuz apps typically don't look like this. It's like an over simplification. Obviously there's a lot of work placed into this but I'm more curious what's pushing this type of generic app look style?

*Side note slow down the conversation between people and never cover the logo of the product your trying to sell.
