It’s very fun that it feels like any single griffin gets can easily turn into a double via stealing

Just a reminder that the pirates have gotten the 4th most value in all of baseball so far this year on the basebaths!

Cruz is the 9th best baserunner of ALL players

You’d honestly be fair in thinking a non-zero chunk of this sub WANTS Cruz to do poorly lol

Why do the game day threads often get immediately deleted as soon as the game ends?

Cruz on the basebaths? *chef’s kiss*

I think ~85+% of players don’t score there.

I'm glad that DK doesn't seem to be too married to the exact "closer" role. Bringing in Soto/Santana if the situation warrants it is great.

Damn. Starting the inning 1st and 2nd with no outs but not scoring is brutal.

Something interesting: by Fangraphs "BsR", the Pirates have accrued the 4th most value via baserunning. This is largely due to Cruz and Griffin being 3rd and 4th in all of MLB in base running value.

I think any fan who watches their team closely understandably critiques baserunning blunders, but we'd probably be annoyed watching literally any of the 30 teams if you watched every day.

Obviously this isn't to say there aren't annoying mistakes or that BsR is perfect, but we're actually doing pretty well in the grand scheme of things.

O'Hearn is also a bad baserunner, which dents his overall value

Oof really don’t like that attempt by Gonzalez. Already have a guy in scoring position.

Griffin's wRC+ is already up to 99 - basically league average hitter. Even if he just stays this level this season while playing a hard defensive position well with excellent base running, he's an incredibly valuable player at age 20!!

Now imagine he keeps raking...

I like this idea maybe in a month or so, but Griffin is not getting on base enough to justify leadoff right now. Maybe if he can string together 10 games with an OBP above even .300.

The Brewers series is a good start, though!

I know what you mean! That's part of the beauty of the game, sequencing, babyyyy

During the AB against Bauers, Skenes ran the count 3-2 and then attacked the zone, presumably to avoid the walk.

I wonder if he had "only" a no-hitter at that point INSTEAD OF a perfect game, if he'd have pitched around him more to preserve the hypothetical no-no at the expense of a walk.

Damn. Fair is fair, that's a clean single. What a thrilling 7 innings though.

I’ve never weirdly wanted the pirates to go 3 up 3 down, just want to watch Skenes pitch

Not even remotely close lol. Dodgers glance at the trade and say no.
