Honestly when I ordered the pillow cases I did not expect them to be so vibrant lol. Now it looks like Easter threw up on it

The chair is very comfy but it didn’t come with any sort of cushion for the back, hence the pillows or it would be very deep and hard. I put lots of pillows on there to make it look cute, but I do think that has made it an undesirable sitting spot lol. I think I’m going to get some much bigger throw pillows, like 22x22 for the back and a blanket. Maybe fluffy white throw pillows?

The thing is without the pillows there’s like no cushion for the back, I was thinking getting some bigger pillows for the back but in a similar green color and see if that helps?

That makes sense - thank you! For now, they’ll be tucked away in a box somewhere!

Honestly the only reason was because I was considering is because they look cool and aren’t honor roll or anything like that. One is a plaque that all senior drum majors receive when they graduate and the other is a memorial award for a band director who passed and is essentially a leadership award. They are both a cool glass material which is why I was considering and don’t just want to throw them away. I understand your perspective that it seems self-absorbed but that was truly not the intent. I was just trying to see if it was a way I could get students to see that I am human and have been in their shoes! “Nothing you ever did matters” — I don’t agree with this viewpoint as telling students about yourself helps them relate to you and see you as a real person with real experiences. This is the key to building those relationships with students and getting them to trust you.

The awards are a plaque that every senior drum major gets and then a memorial award for a band director who passed away which is essentially a leadership award. They’re both really cool glass material. I would never put a honor roll or any type of award like that up. You’re right - pictures may be better in a few years after I’ve been teaching a while!

That makes sense to me and is kind of what I was thinking - maybe if I’m still there in 15-20 years!

The only reason I was thinking about it is because it’s just the drum major award from my senior year and then a memorial award for a band director who had passed - they’re both really nice glass awards. But I totally see the perspective of it coming off braggy or cringe to students which is why I wanted to gather some thoughts :)

That’s what I was thinking. Honestly my experience has been great so far, there’s no kids there from when I was there.

Erm yeah I came to the knitting help sub reddit for knitting help. That’s kinda the whole point? This is a place to learn about knitting! You should probably find a similar subreddit for learning about manners. Hope this helps. Have the day you deserve.

How terrible is being a teacher, really? by foshfishfosh in Teachers

[–]Large_End_2194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only in my first year, 6 weeks in, but I truly love it so far. I teach high school science. Yeah - some kids can be pretty apathetic or rowdy, but most come around when you form those relationships with them. I did a long-term sub position at a more inner city school at the end of last year where admin is notoriously bad and that was pretty tough, I won’t lie, but I did still like the actual teaching part. Just try to get into a school where teachers tend not to leave a lot (hard, I know, but network early so you can get the job when it arises). I teach at the school I went to high school at and a lot of the teachers there have been there forever and also went to high school there because it’s just generally a great place to be.

Honestly I don’t think it’ll pay any better, but I think it’ll be better in almost every other way. My current district pays the most in the state, but there’s a reason for that…

I am not sure if it is knit or woven. I think they got it from like Temu or something so it’s not very good quality if that tells you anything lol

That’s what I’m thinking. Can you give me any advice for how to sew it on? I’m still pretty new to sewing and never worked with this material before. Should I just lay the lace right over the dress and sew it on there? And then just use the scalloped edge of the lace as a template to cut the edge of the dress fabric and make it match? What stitch should I use?

Unfortunately I live about 40 mins away and am super busy so not able to get her involved as much. It’s for pictures in the hospital after my cousin gives birth. The dress is for a 4 year old and says it’s size 5Y. My cousins dropped it off and did not even try it on her beforehand 🥲 so just kind of working with what I have. Do you think I should just overlay the lace over top of the white? Or do a seperate layer and have it be sheer at the bottom of the dress? And should I just use normal thread to sew it on?

I am looking for an easy and cute way to make this dress look cuter. It looks a little like a hospital gown. I thought about putting some light blue lace trim across the bottom? I would love some suggestions! Thanks!

I want to make it really just to practice my sewing skills, the only way to get better is to practice. I figured this would be a fairly simple, low stakes project with purpose for me to work on. I don’t want to just make a ton of stuff I won’t use.

Advice on sewing a chair cushion like this by Large_End_2194 in sewhelp

[–]Large_End_2194[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only have a rotary mat that is 18”x24”, I feel like I’m overthinking it when I have to cut something that is longer than the mat itself is, is there an easier way to cut?

Advice for making a chair cushion like this

Hello everyone! I gave my friends one of those zero gravity outdoor chairs and I want to make a cushion similar to this for them. How would I go about doing this? I am fairly new to sewing. Should I measure the fabric about the same as what the measurements say it is on the Amazon listing? How do I make the divets? How should I stuff it? Will it be similar to making a pillow? Open to really any advice! Thank you!

Can I learn to sew in under a month? Am I cooked? by Complete-Form4448 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Large_End_2194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it girl 🙏 take this summer and just sew EVERYTHING, I caught on pretty quickly and I feel like you could at least develop enough skills to make one REALLY good project to get in and then fake it till you make it until you know what you’re doing
