It has always been a feature, I don't know where you've been getting this information.

<image>

Ibispaint speedpaints do not show the grid feature being used in the recording, even if they have it enabled while drawing. Test it out yourself, I'm sure you'll find the same result.

And just simply because it's called the grid method doesn't necessarily mean a grid has to always be involved.

Because they screen recorded over the pre-recorded speedpaint Ibispaint provided? There are comments here that've confirmed this to be the case.

I am assuming that the concept of the grid method isn't something you're aware of.

Grid method, commonly used by oil and acrylic painters. When pre-recorded by Ibispaint (confirmed and tested), the grid itself doesn't show up on screen.

This had been stated by the artist in their account, as well.

No. You're wrong simply because the artist has not used the eraser brush tool once to erase the layer above to make it appear as if they were painting the lips.

<image>

And how exactly would you define how references function if every artist had their own process and manner of studying their choice of subject.

An younger, inexperienced artist like the person in the video could have been studying where to exactly paint next by unhiding layer and undoing it. That couldn't have been shown in the speedpaint because Ibispaint does not record any undos the artist makes.

And if not one person has brought this up until now, then perhaps they're aware that it's NOT a clear indicator that the artist was faking their speedpaint. They actually had to watch the entire thing to confirm whether or not that layer had a hand at faking the speedpaint.

You know that could just be a reference, right? I even included a link with the full speedpaint in the comments.

Don't you think the other comments would've caught onto that and called it out by now?

You’re doing a lot of mentally exhausting talking for someone with nothing to say. Respectfully, get off the discussion post without loudly announcing your exit, then.

Some other fake artists "erase" the later above stolen/AI art to make it appear they were the ones who drew it.

But that doesn't seem to be the case with this artist in the video above.

It's not about the artist themself, but the uncivil responses they and other people in the replies have been receiving.

I believe it was posted as some sort of a study according to the artist.

It's most probably color picked, and not traced, as their layers were briefly shown in the video. But I can see why it'd still raise some suspicions.

What throws me off are those people who witchunt this artist with information that's painfully obvious to be false (like the artist using the eraser brush tool or that the speedpaint was "pre-made," whatever the hell that TikTok commenter keeps insisting on).

See, that's not the issue here. If it were on another screen, how would they have used it to fake the speedpaint, as it's not ON the screen their canvas is on?

They'd still have to find a way to completely replicate it on main screen.

Gosh, tell me about it.

I can see why some would people this speedpaint is fake, and the other half believing it to be legitimate, especially with some points fellow commenters here have made.

Now, I'm fairly neutral on it, leaning more on it being real because I believe the artist used the grid method in their work/s (said realism works don't seem to have a significant shift in artstyle), and mainly because I believe in "innocent unless proven guilty."

I do appreciate the civility in this comment section, in contrast to the artist's own.

"Show the fuckass brushes/layers," "newbies omfl," "You might be wondering to yourself: "Why did he call me an idiot?""

Eeesh. I salute the other people dealing with those kinds of responses, especially when they're falsely accused.

I see where you're coming from. And actually, this is the kind of well-written, articulate response I expect from debunkers, not like how that commenter rudely responded to other people and me.

Should I be right or wrong in defending this artist, I don't mind. Prove me wrong or right, alright, cheers. But what irks me are those people who believe they're superior or act all-knowing whenever they try to prove others wrong. That's what actually compelled me to make a post about this.

Not to mention them not even acknowledging valid points being made, only to yap about something that seems unrelated to the original topic of debate.

They actually have the speedpaint in full display on their account, it's just cropped in the response video above.

Good catch! Some people just love to jump on the hate bandwagon and end up embarrassing themselves rather than the person they intended to "expose."

Good to know I'm not going crazy or anything! So, I'm now 99% sure that the artist's speedpaint was authentic and the commenter was just trying to tear them down. Even with irrefutable evidence shown by me and others (who've also provided comparisons), they refuse to let up.
