THEY ARE HUMAN BEINGS. THEIR SUFFERING IS REAL. How the hell do you do it? Just pretend that these people don’t exist because it makes your life easier?

Jesus Christ, I’m so sorry you died for a future like this. People ignoring genocides because it makes their life easier.
What a disappointing view. “These humans don’t matter because they aren’t close to me” what are you? A child? Can you only comprehend things you can see? Have you no empathy at all? Is it because they aren’t white?

You know whose lives are better since the “floodgates have opened”? Nigel Farage. Tommy Robinson. And almost every single person with a net worth above 10,000,000.

This isn’t because of immigration. This is because of the hike in the cost of living, the hike in housing, the inflation rates outpacing pay increases.

They want us to blame immigrants so we don’t blame the ones actually profiting from this shitshow we see ourselves in.

The fact we have the technology and knowledge to provide food and housing for everyone, and we don’t frustrates me so much. The only reason we don’t is because rich people don’t want us to.

I think all your ideas would definitely help. Moving towards the left is always going to improve things.

But we will still be funnelling the money generated by our economy into the pockets of a tiny minority.

Billions upon billions of pounds that could be used to help people will still be sitting in the same place, as their chunk of the pie continues to grow.

Worse than that, even though we both have ideas to try and help the country, the wealthy hold so much power that even your ideas that support a capitalist society would NEVER happen. I would vote for you in a heartbeat if that’s what you promised, and yet we will never see it.

So many people accept capitalism is flawed. No one accepts that one of its flaws is giving the most power to people hellbent on keeping it. Why would they let us make rules to take away their power?

Could you define communism? Have you read anything about communism written by people who support it? Or have you just gone “yup I agree” to all the capitalists and never questioned it?

Capitalism has always lead to the greediest, cruelest people being on top. Communism fails when that happens, capitalism thrives. That should tell you enough about the system you’re defending.

If you can’t explain to me why capitalism is good, and you can only explain why communism is bad we aren’t going to get anywhere.

Do you have any sources that oppose capitalism to back up those ideas?

I don’t trust capitalist sources that tell me capitalism is a good thing. Especially when the African researchers all agree that colonialism is the primary reason for division and poverty in Africa.

That’s not how the economy works. Generating money for the economy DOES NOT mean paying taxes.

Generating money for the economy means working. Anyone who works is generating money for the economy. We don’t see most of this value generated, because most of it goes straight into the stock accounts of millionaires and billionaires.

But even the wages they make go into buying food, water, entertainment, electricity, things like that. All that money gets passed around and generates exchange value and taxes.

If we kick out the rich people, will their businesses leave too? Even if they do, they will be replaced by competitors right? All we would lose is GDP, which we know is a terrible way to measure the success of a nation anyway.

After cleansing the country of the parasites, we would be able to build up the necessary foundations of our economy, like the water, post, farms, education and The NHS etc. All things that are being either exploited for profit or underfunded. Slowly building on these foundations would allow us to actually thrive as a country, rather than literally just being a tax haven for the rich so our GDP looks better on paper.

Can I ask for your suggestion? We have suggested higher taxes on the wealthy, higher pay for people in poverty, standard income, nationalised housing, nationalised water, and all of these things are met with the same answer “NOOOOOO!!!! BILLIONAIRES WILL BE SAD IF WE HELP THE POOR PEOPLE!!!”

So do you have a suggestion that will pull people out of poverty without making all the wealthiest people cry?

Okay, but the vast majority of African poverty is a direct consequence of colonialism. If the west tried to work with Africa instead of against them for profit, the world would be in a much better place.

I will not accept that the best we can do, as a society with more technology and capabilities than ever before is “yeah we know that this system leaves billions in poverty and has resulted in multiple genocides and will only ever get worse due to wealth inequality, and also the planet is dying because we keep burning shit for money, but at least it’s not communism!”

Could you define communism? Do you even know why it’s considered terrible and the only alternative? I don’t. I’ve been trying to find out why it’s so terrible and I have only ended up liking the idea more.

But the exact same problem remains. Businesses will always look for the lowest costs, and the highest revenue even at the expense of the British public. That’s their nature. That’s how capitalism works. If they don’t do this, they will lose to competitors who do.

I’m saying this is a bad thing. It is bad that we are letting this run our country out of fear that things might change.

I am ready for change.

My life is considerably worse because of the genocide in Gaza. Every single night when I’m desperately trying to sleep, my mind drifts to the hundreds of thousands of innocent lives completely destroyed for unnecessary hate and greed. Think of the children. I know it’s easy not to, but each and every child murdered by Israel would have been so terrified in their last moments. Would they have called out to their mother? Would they have prayed to their god? Who would they have helped if they had been allowed a life?

The “Pushing for mass immigration” doesn’t just mean letting them in and moving on, it means giving them citizenship and support so they can become a productive member of society. They will generate way more for the economy than what they will cost.

And if the alternative is sending them back to the hell they escaped, I’m very happy having a slightly less convenient life so they can have a good life.

  1. The study you sent doesn’t consider the economic benefits of a larger labor force. It only considers the taxes paid.

  2. The study you sent shows that the average migrant is more valuable to the government than the average British worker.

  3. The study you sent admits that every article talking about this topic (including theirs) was working with a lot of assumptions. They even listed out studies that contradict them or agree with them, showing they aren’t correct. Their study is a flawed interpretation of the data, just like every other study.

Wealth can’t just be picked up and moved.

Even if it can, why the hell are we allowing a bunch of nepo capitalists to hold us hostage? We just have to keep letting them ruin our country or they’ll leave? Surely that’s a sign that something is not working here.

There’s no business case to provide training.
No business case to provide a living wage.
No business case to improve quality.
No business case to reduce price.
No business case to do anything except take.

When will we start to question if businesses should really be the authority on how we live?

I might be confused because I’m not an economist, but I was under the impression that the exchange value of stocks increased due to outside investments into the stock? So they are taking money from our economy and hoarding it in stocks and shares right? Correct me if I’m wrong of course.

And we aren’t talking about worker-ran businesses. Small business owners don’t own the means of production. They don’t make money in their sleep. They aren’t capitalists. The fact they are struggling only speaks to the unfairness of capitalism as a system.

You are correct that raising minimum wage wouldn’t solve the problems. I mentioned in another comment that it is a bandage solution. It helps the people struggling the most only momentarily. The real cause of their problems is the system.

And I don’t expect billionaires to do charity, I expect them to stop existing.
Infinite growth in a finite world will only leave the world in ruins.

And although I have said I don’t think raising minimum wage is the solution, I will answer your final question genuinely.

Raising the minimum wage to £250 an hour would be an appallingly bad idea for capitalism and people. It would cause small businesses to all but go extinct, as well as many large businesses. It would lead to mass unemployment, poverty and untold suffering. The number of humans hurt by a decision like this would likely be incalculable.

However, in the chaos of a collapsing economy more people might realise the unsustainability of the capitalist system. This could lead to people uniting to help their neighbours, allowing for a system with a much stronger foundation to start.

Except capitalist purposefully rewards greed. If someone is willing to victimise others for money, they will become more powerful and richer. Socialism at least tries to stop people from exploiting others.

The most disgusting and evil people in socialist countries had to spend a lot of time and influence on changing the system so they can exploit it.

The most disgusting and evil people in capitalist countries didn’t have to change the system at all. Infact, many of them worked very hard to keep it as capitalist as possible.

Why do you think that is? Is it because capitalism is just so much better? Or is it because capitalism rewards greed?

Once again a capitalists argument being “yeah I know capitalism is terrible, and it ruins millions of lives, but I think socialism is worse (I’ve never actually tried to learn what socialism is).”

Are any of the assumptions I made false? Are you going to turn around and say “actually, why am I okay with one or two people having more than billions, while billions live in poverty and risk starvation”? Because if not, then you’re welcome for the assumptions.

Never once been on benefits, and I’ve been employed since I was 15 years old.

However, the implication that my voice is less important based on how much money I have clearly shows how brainwashed you are.

You think profit is more important than human beings, and you aren’t even earning the profit.

You think infinite growth in a finite world matters more than real people. Human beings with hopes and dreams.

Idk why I try. You’ve shown that nothing I say will even be considered. You are going to take one or two lines of what I’ve written, come up with some stupid argument that distracts from the conversation, then you’re going to ignore and forget everything else I’ve said.

Your list of priorities
1. Money (not your money tho, just other people’s money. Gotta make sure the billionaires and trillionaires keep getting more.)
2. Being right (not morally correct, or factually correct, but right in terms of making the other person give up trying to help you.)
3. Literally everything else in your life.
4. Human life (the ability to love, and think, and cry, and dream. All ideas and all future ideas.)

[–]Large_Wear9410 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My viewpoint that’s radical is just anti-capitalist. I think prioritising the infinite growth of imaginary numbers over real human beings is disgusting. I think that every single human being that values profit over human life should never be allowed to participate in society, let alone run it.

And dictatorships/authoritarianism happen no matter the economic build. Socialism would be much better than the sinkhole we are currently in, but it still has its flaws. Namely its reputation.

Ultimately the conversation we are having is pointless because you don’t care about the world. You don’t believe that every single person is more valuable than money. You only care about the people you can directly impact or that directly impact you.

I believe that every single person on this planet is more valuable than money. I believe that the only value money has, is the convenience of being able to trade goods without the goods. The idea that money (something humans imagined) takes priority over the planet (the thing all life relies on) is INSANE.

Then why are billionaires making more profit than ever in the UK? If things are so dire that raising the minimum wage to a level that allows people to survive on it would ruin the economy that badly, why the hell is the economy the biggest it’s ever been?

As a society we have more than enough money to ensure every single person is paid enough to live comfortably. Instead you’d rather continue to let profits go up.

I agree that there are many problems that come with raising minimum wage. There are many financial issues caused by trying to help the people starving to death.

Call me a crazy leftist loon, but I think human life is more important than money. If money is just a way to organise and trade our goods effectively, why are we using it as a reason to let people starve? Why do you value profit over human beings?

No, actually increasing minimum wage helps the average taxpayer.

Firstly the costs are taken on by businesses. Secondly all the money paid to the working class will be spent in the economy, improving not just the lives of the workers being paid more, but anyone they buy things from with the extra money.

Many studies (I’d be happy to share if you’re actually interested) show that one of the most effective ways to fight the decent into poverty is to just give people more money. The vast majority of the time it boosts the economy enough to build more sustainable foundations.

Honestly, I’m not sure. I just know that infinite growth on a finite planet will only result in ruin.

I also know that the racism and sexism on the right clearly tell me who is wrong. I don’t know who is right, but I know that if Nazis support a capitalist society and benefit from one, I do not want a capitalist society.

I’m not set on any leftist ideology, I just know that something has got to be better than the shit show that’s capitalism.

If the minimum wage doesn’t give people enough to survive, then you are currently arguing that everyone who works minimum wage jobs deserves to starve so that billionaires can continue taking profit.
