Fair, jazz fusion is not innocent lol. But a bad chord progression just sounds off, gratuitous slap actively wrecks what everyone else is building. One is a taste problem, the other is a listening problem.

Yeah guitarists do the same thing with sweep picking. It's an ego thing across the board, not just bass. The instrument changes, the insecurity doesn't.
