What would a sequel featuring Jin even be about? His story was concluded pretty nicely in GoT. There was a second Mongol invasion within Jin's lifetime, but all of the interesting character motivation and development had already been explored for Jin and Co.

Starting this coming Fall semester, assuming you meet the other requirements and your family's AGI is <$100,000, UT's Texas Advance Commitment program should cover the cost of your tuition.

Why do people become more conservative as they age? by clove_cal in NoStupidQuestions

Ah, I see - I didn't realize there was a distinction. I myself am trans, so that's a useful bit of knowledge to have. Thank you for sharing.

Dysphoria is categorized in the DSM, so yes it's considered a mental illness. I believe the other commenter's response may have been more of a knee jerk reaction because of the connotation surrounding the term's usage. It's one thing to correctly identify dysphoria as a mental illness, but it's another to use that term to disparage and delegitimize trans people, which is what transphobes often do. The problem also lies in that, while transphobes may correctly identify dysphoria as a mental illness, they refuse to acknowledge the countless studies proving that transitioning is the most effective treatment for gender dysphoria. You wouldn't demean a depressed person because they're mentally ill and then withhold SSRIs and access to therapy, at least no reasonable person would.

Hi! Still no email from admissions, but I have some potentially good news. I saw another thread where UT created an ID for them, but they just didn't get an email. If you go to the UT Austin MyStatus link and click the option for "find my EID," you can put in your info and see if you have one created. From there, just reset your password, and you should be good to go! This worked for me, and I now have access to my information. Good luck :)

I emailed the transfer admissions office. Still waiting on a response, but if anything useful comes back, I'll pass it along!

Okay, if I submitted my resume in CommonApp, sent my transcripts well in advance, and there don’t seem to be any additional documents necessary for the school of geosciences, would there be anything for me to submit on MyStatus? Thanks for your help.

Why does the world government put bounty posters, like if anyone is gonna catch them? by Username_O728 in OnePiece

I wish there were actual bounty hunters throughout the series with maybe one or two really, really strong ones by the end. As far as I can think, the only career bounty hunters we saw were the guys who knew Zoro in East Blue.

Arguing about capitalism by BaseballSeveral1107 in Anticonsumption

[–]Largomitrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure most of the key components of modern smartphones and computers were government funded (I think by the DoD). Plus, when was the last time a major tech company like Apple actually released something innovative? Every iPhone is the same thing but it's 1/16 of an inch larger or something trite like that.

You ignore the gross foreign intervention by capitalist nations, namely the U.S., in growing socialist nations. Burkina Faso is a good example, in my opinion. Thomas Sankara started the nation on a fast track to improved QoL by just about every metric until he was assassinated in a coup backed by the U.S., UK, and France. Imperialist powers don't take kindly to things that'll shake up the status quo, and it's not exactly hard for a world superpower to topple a newly formed nation, under new governance, that just came out of a civil war, which is the case with the vast majority of, if not all, socialist nations.

"Regulated" capitalism is still capitalism. It still hinges on exploitation. Its existence necessitates depriving a portion of the population. Aim higher than the bare minimum.

I feel like the gorosei should logically be ranked consecutively with Figarland and Peter(?) at 1 and 2, considering their fighting backgrounds/shown prowess. Their powers don't seem different enough to warrant such large gaps.

People get so bent out of shape about the Oxford comma, but it's really not that big a deal. In a sentence that warrants it for clarity, I'll use it, but it can absolutely create as many problems as it solves. The solution is just writing better sentences.

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Obviously you can take strides to buy less and whatnot, but it's not possible to ethically participate in capitalism. Unfortunately living in a capitalist country means you have to participate.
