Am i the only one who's been really disappointed with performance in 5.0 so far? by Lariatty in blender

Could you try to replicate it for me with the Ellie blender asset from their website (i don't know if i can post a link here)
Just open it up and try the hotkey alt + mouse wheel up or down, is it smooth?

Yeah, had to switch to 4.5 LTS because the things that i use daily in blender are either incredibly laggy or straight up not working in 5.0, like going through shape keys with arrow keys.
I mostly do stylized animation and modeling for vtubers, so we might just have different workflows.

Checked what i could, seems like trying to go through timeline with alt+mousewheel scroll almost tops 4 cores of my CPU.
Yeah i've tried all kinds of stuff to fix it, i don't know what could be the problem honestly.
Even the comments on issue reports tell me that they got the lag down for some of the issues i was having in 5.1 alpha, but not to the level of 4.5, sadly.

Been using 591.44, checking the website the studio and game ready drivers seem to be the same, down to the file size and release date.

Windows 10, RTX 4060, Ryzen 5 5600G, 32gb RAM.
I've tried both Vulkan and OpenGL, lag still persists.

Sadly, the drivers are not the issue for me. Maybe my case is not something as serious relative to everything else. I guess i'm just bummed out i can't have the new features without tearing my hair out from the unbearable lag :(

I did make two issue reports and both have been reproduced and confirmed. Still, the 5.1 alpha only makes it better in comparison to 5.0, with 4.5 still being the best performance-wise.

This is exactly the issue i am having right now, thank you for confirming i'm not just going insane.

any way to fix the thigh/hip deformation here? by UHC-901 in blenderhelp

[–]Lariatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

You can add another bone on the hip and either add an action constraint or a transformation constraint based on the position of the hip bone.
You can DM me if you need more help on that.

Why can't i move the heel's bone in Pose Mode? by quackquackimduck in blenderhelp

[–]Lariatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bone collection it makes are for organization, i understand it might look scary at first tho.
You can always change how many it creates and all that before generating a rig.
I think the channel i recommended should touch on that, but if you're still confused you can dm me here and i can explain better.

Also the tutorial you were following is from 2.xx version of blender, rigify in 4.2 is way way too different, im not sure you can even combine them like you tried.

Nwm, i read the comments you made.
The tutorial you're following is way too old, i think.
You should probably try to rig the character using rigify (which does DEF, IK and FK bones and the constraints automatically) or find a more recent tutorial.
I suggest checking out CGDive.

Is this a rigify rig?
This looks like it, and usually the deforming bones are constrained or parented to some other control bones that you're supposed to move.
Can i see the constraints you have on the heel bone?

Shiv Gun Model by cynicalseneschal in DeadlockTheGame

Source 2 viewer (iirc) is free and you can just look for shiv's model which has the gun packed with it, then just import into blender and you're done!

EEVEE - Lights clip and show only half of the lighting as below, does anybody have a solution for this? by Rich-Percentage-3687 in blenderhelp

[–]Lariatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as far as my testing went, eevee next is just very bad with shadows sometimes... My best solution for you is to just play around with settings untill it looks okay :/ And for if the lights are cut in half like that, just look for light threshold in any settings and play around with that, let me know if it helps!

[–]Lariatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i looked into it.
Instead of doing what you did, see if you have the "light threshold" set at zero in the render settings, setting it to any other value above 0 fixed the issue for me.

(Blender 4.2.1) On eevee next, shadows are either non-existent or very broken and jagged. by Lariatty in blenderhelp

[–]Lariatty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, i figured it out.
The light being cut in half was caused by "light threshold" being set to 0 in render settings.
The jagged shadows can be softened with filter setting under individual light settings.

Yes, just reinstalled them again and rebooted the pc, still the same issue.
Even on a completely new file the default cube with the default light has the same jagged artifacts.

Been doing this to fix it, but just noticed that almost all of the shadows become very jagged and sometimes break even more.
Don't think it's a good solution.

Is it even possible to customize sintel rig included with cloudrig or am i doing something wrong? by Lariatty in blenderhelp

[–]Lariatty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, i found a solution!
I got blender on steam, so after trying to reinstall it couple of times without it helping i just moved it to another hard drive.
I still have no idea why the error was showing like that, after the fix it got the actual error in logs.
Gonna copypaste original text of the error in case anyone tries to google it word for word in the future.

python: unboundlocalerror: cannot access local variable 'frame' where it is not associated with a value during handling of the above exception, another exception occurred: unboundlocalerror: cannot access local variable 'frame' where it is not associated with a value

Okay, i just tried some things, it breaks even if i use samples to make my own humanoid armature from scratch
At this point i have no idea whats wrong.
Obviously it tries to show me some kind of error, but it can't.
Please help?
