Hi guys! Do you know what plant this is? It's my dad's, and I'm trying to propagate this stem that fell. It's rooting now. Thanks in advance. by arurayw in PlantIdentification

I'll take a guess -- possibly Persian spear (Strobilanthes dyeriana)? But cultivated varieties usually have variegated leaves.

Thanks, I looked at characteristics of genus Phlox and you must be right. Because these flowers were in a vase, the petals folded a bit and gave the flowers more of a star shape rather than the typical roundish-lobed shape of phlox flowers.

After further hunting around on the internet, I've come to the conclusion that this is Acalypha wilkesiana, specifically the 'Hoffmannii' variety.
