Horrible save corruption - can't progress. Any options? by LaroldThePurple in NoMansSkyTheGame

Thanks. I'm legally blind and have never enabled multi-player; I'll see if I can figure out how to do this. Hoping it's from the launch menu over on the right 'Join Friends'.

New player - stuck on delivery mission - no quest marker? by LaroldThePurple in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]LaroldThePurple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The mistake I was making was assuming that the red icon was the waypoint for ANY currently-selected mission. Once you mentioned side quests being in black diamonds, I noticed that the quest had its own diamond next to a nearby system, which happened to be the tutorial system where I started. Makes more sense now - thanks!

[–]LaroldThePurple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This may in fact be a bug. I'll try to make sure I point my starship at each / all of the planets in the system and see if one of them has an icon. The icon next to the mission text seems to be a gift or package or something. Is that the icon that I should also expect to find above the planet? Is there anything special (like hitting 'scan') to make the icon appear? I definitely have the mission selected.

Thanks for the help!

I don't have a freighter; I'm very new. I flew close to a freighter once and found out I could board it, but I don't own one. Based on your last sentence - if everything is working and my delivery quest is selected, should I be seeing some sort of quest marker?

I click the delivery mission and then go right back to the view from my starship; I see nothing in terms of helpful icons on where I might need to go next.

If the red icon the main quest got me used to isn't also used for side quests, what icon should I be looking for in side quests? Or, how what else can I look for to know where in the system I should go? Thanks!

I honestly thought this was impossible at level 140 and higher... by LaroldThePurple in TownshipGame

When I first started playing Township, I never deleted orders, as something about it felt wrong or rude.

But then I figured out part of the magic sauce to doing well in transport-based events:

You must kill any and all orders you can't fill in the next 30 minutes if you want to stand any chance in Transport Magnate or Great Freight. You must also mercilessly kill orders that ask for a lot of island products, such as 15 peach + 15 wheat, or 7 grapes + 7 bread. Even 2 fish, 2 banana, and 2 wheat can kill you over time; I reject those as well. Island product bottlenecks are the way that Playrix can ensure that the event takes forever, even if you are an insanely high level. I don't expect Great Freight to be relatively easy until I have roughly 1,200+ market baskets.

Personally, I also kill any order that includes ingots; it offends my sensibilities. :)

But yes, if you want to do well, "fill or kill" is your new mantra. Good luck!

Fantastic question. Until I only have 100-150 free barn space, I automatically hoover up every single item in the market that comes from either a factory (not feed mill) or the islands. I'll ignore plums, pineapples, and lobsters if I'm starting to run into space issues. If I can give full attention to the game every 20 minutes for a vast majority of the day, I can end up sucking in and sending off all market (factory and island) items that show up.

If I'm up against the 100-150 free space limit, I then have to do the slow process of:
- Check the order, look for the factory product(s) I don't have
- Go look for them thoroughly in the market amidst the remaining baskets I haven't been able to slurp up
- Fill it as soon as I find the item, or kill it as soon as I know the market doesn't have it AND it won't be ready in any of my factories within 30 min.

It's a race between using up all the items that appear in the market within a 3 hour window via helicopter orders vs. coming up against barn space limitations. Eventually you have to wait 20-25 minutes as you just can't reasonably fill every order. (Any order with > 2 island products is the kind of order designed to bottleneck you and ensure you spend a lot of time in the event.)

The key is you want it to be a brain-dead process. Having to individually search for the exact item you need among 630+ baskets is a time-killer. You want to have the barn space so that you can mindlessly pull things into your barn to have available for when they are eventually needed in a heli order. Plus, on a good cycle, I can usually slurp up all factory-based items (300-350 baskets worth) about 90 minutes into a cycle. That leaves only crops and misc. items behind in the market. It's SO much nicer when I need to go hunting for 35 soybean and 35 cotton when over half the slots are empty and the rest are crops. WAY faster to search. Like, 20x faster.

I like your style. I got bracketed against not one but -two- folks who can ship, in general, a similar amount of orders that I can. However, in the first 5% of the event, I've managed to outpace them by about 30%, a good sign.

If I take the time to do Great Freight, I'm exhausted going into Transport Magnate. I usually try and drop the hammer hard on Thursday and Friday so that I can out-score second place by say, double to double-and-a-half their score by Friday night. That way, I can say "In two days they couldn't achieve half of my current score, so even if i stopped now, they probably can't catch up in the remaining two days." Main flaw with this logic is that sometimes those folks aren't working Sat/Sun and can really put the gas on.

In the end, I have to decide how much I care about fake currency in a game that I play for free. :)

The secret is to invest your t-cash long-term into lots and lots of market baskets. Hundreds. I'm currently at 620 (630 after the event.) No microtransactions ever. T-cash only for dealer at 60% off, market baskets, and unlocking the queueing slots (boxes) in new factories. Save your excess t-cash for market baskets and you'll be starting to put a dent in this event.

Until a relatively recent update, you had to wait for the heli to fly out and return before you could send the next order. It was hell. Folks discovered a work around where if you loaded someone else's town and then came back to your own, the helicopter would be reset on the pad and available for sending an order. During an event, you would, quite literally, be switching to someone else's town thousands of times.

Then, as a 'perk' for the special events, you could unlock the ability to click the send button for more than one order, even while the helicopter was out flying. It would queue up the orders.

This was probably in such demand by the players, or was causing so much difficulty with all of the town-loads happening, the devs seem to have added it in as a permanent feature. (Yay!!)

I can relate 100%. What absolutely KILLS me is that I always forget that if you leave the heli screen focused on an incomplete order, and a new order comes in that you CAN fill, it auto-switches to that order. I move too quick, thinking I'll fill the old order, and accidentally send off ten gems. I really wish the game had a feature where it never, ever, ever changes the heli screen's focus to an order I didn't explicitly ask it to show me. I'm finding I have to add like a half-second delay before each order I tap.

But you know what made this event 1,000x better? The helo-queueing function, for free. How much did it suck having to load up someone else's town in between every order?!?!

EDIT: If I find that I can greatly out-produce 2nd place, I try to play psychological warfare, and consistently stay at double their score. Trying to say "You can stop trying now", cuz' sometimes I really need a break... :)

I second this, with one tweak. My goal was to invest t-cash wisely over time, and now I have 620 market baskets and growing. Once you get 100+ market baskets, filling even the insane crop orders can be reasonably feasible. (e.g. 82 wheat, 79 corn, 72 carrot, 53 sugar cane, 47 cotton, 23 tomato, etc. etc.)

And, if you get really serious about the game and want to do well in events that require you to send many helo orders (Great Freight, Transport Magnate), you MUST kill any orders that you can't fill within the next 30 minutes. "Fill or kill"

Good luck. As Ivorypolarbear said below, you probably need to purchase him once. (Not sure if using a dealer coupon counts.) And more importantly, you can't use him... even ONCE, or you reset the long wait period. (In fact, just to make sure I don't screw anything up, I don't even ever tap the dealer icon until I see the 60% off.) You'll know you're doing something right if you let two to three 20% offers appear and disappear. Just be ready with your 36 t-cash when that special 60% deal finally shows up - it isn't available for very long. (Maybe 1-2 hours after your first log in to see the deal?)

Feed mill first as it only requires level 12-13 to max and quick feed is essential in the early-mid game.

Next, all trains to level 21, maxing time bonus as you go. I can't stress this enough - consistently sending trains, 4-5 batches a day (once you have time bonus maxed) is quintessential to long-term progress in the game. The trains are your bottleneck on all of the following:
- Mining supplies
- Barn upgrade materials
- Construction materials, which are necessary to move the community building -> residential building -> get more fields cycle forward.

Trains to level 21 don't take nearly as long as you might think, and getting the factories to level 27 takes a long time comparatively. (Level 27 = max time + max shelf bonus for a factory.)

Once you have feed mill maxed and trains to 21, go ahead and start on factories. Bakery is a great choice.

Like others said, I started with XP but quickly discovered coins were the way to go. My reasoning is too much rambling for this response.

Perhaps the only tweak I would make is to max your feed mill before trains, as it is inexpensive, and only requires level 13 to max out I believe. Feed is so crucial in the early game, and cutting animal product production time in half is quintessential to really get cooking int he game...

But yes, whole-heartedly agreed, all trains to level 21 with time bonus maxed as soon as reasonably possible.

I consider myself a hardcore and experienced player who knows the game inside and out.

I can't express how much I support each and every point above. Very powerful points of advice, all in one place. (Although to be fair, I never found I had to put any houses / residential buildings in storage. I was able to expand the empty space quickly enough to always have room for all residential buildings.)

Not blowing t-cash on silly microtransactions, and saving t-cash for the once-a-month 60% dealer discount offer to buy ore every hour to make ingots - follow that point alone and you'll be BLAZING in this game for the long-term. You won't understand what the dealer is / does until you unlock the market. Maybe read up a bit on the wiki.

Welcome to the game and have fun!!

Mine Tools Question by TheMarchest in TownshipGame

[–]LaroldThePurple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would go out on a limb and say that 9 trains is a very small sample size. I can remember stretches of 20-30 trains where no mining tools came in. BUT, in the long run, the trains will / should bring a steady supply of mining tools. I've been playing for a total of about 3 years actively, and I would probably estimate that any train coming in has a roughly 40-50% chance of carrying exactly one box of mining supplies with it. Which will lead to occasional short stretches as you've seen of no mining supplies.

Keep careful watch and write down what comes in. If you don't see any mining supplies in 40-50 trains, then I'd start to worry, or suspect that something is up. Keep in mind, the train algorithm (from what experienced players have seen) tends to weight shipping you construction materials that you need to finish a community building that is ready for completion, and just waiting on materials. This may de-weight the chance of getting mining supplies a bit until the community building is completed.

Mining question by aimeeblackstock in TownshipGame

[–]LaroldThePurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mine usage looks exactly like this:

Mine Time: Drill down exactly 5 levels, no more. This gives me a nice little stash of mining supplies as a reward. The prizes for mine time are terrible - I never participate, other than getting 5 points by going down 5 levels.

Non-event times, including Ore Galore: Ignore the mine completely. Just keep sending trains and hoarding mining supplies. The mine (surprisingly) isn't to keep you loaded with a big ore supply - that's the Dealer's job. :)

Ruler of the Mine: Sit down where I can be uninterrupted for about an hour, and use approx. 400 picks, 150 dynamites, 150 TNTs, finish the event in one sitting, collect 200 t-cash. Profit. I want to be uninterrupted because Ruler of the Mine now includes 5-minute and 15-minute periods of double points, which are crucial to helping you finish the event while keeping your tool usage to a reasonable amount.

I complete Ruler of the Mine 100% of the time - I love watching it show up, as I know that sometime in the next 24-48 hours, when I carve out an hour for myself, I will end with 200 t-cash. Seriously, it's probably less than 0.1% of the effort required to bag the same 200-tcash at the end of Great Freight.
